German Chart Comments - Issue Date 25.08.2016

Imany is far from being shy as her "Don't Be So Shy", in remix of Filatov & Karas, spends two full months at the summit of the Germany's singles chart. And it still has no official video... The song is once again followed by Major Lazor feat. Justin Bieber & MØ and "Cold Water" at #2 and Felix Jaehn feat. Alma and "Bonfire" at #3.

In fact, eight songs retain their last week positions in what is more-than-steady top ten in Germany. Fresh wind is only brought by Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Imagine Dragons, Logic, Ty Dolla $ign and X Ambassadors and their Suicide Squad anthem "Sucker for Pain" as the song shoot itself up the chart, from #17 to #8. As anticipated over the last few weeks, Disturbed's "The Sound Of Silence" has finally arrived inside the top ten and it rises three to #10.

"Heathens" of twenty one pilots, the other great track from Suicide Squad, lands inside the top twenty, up eleven to #11. It is the second offering of the US rock duo to make it so high, next to their massive hit "Stressed Out" from earlier this year.

The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey have already crowned the difficult-to-crack Billboard Hot 100 chart with "Closer" and they are now on their way for big things in Germany as well. The track is up eight to #12.

Further down the chart, a new peak is marked by Alvaro Soler's "Sofia" at #23, up three.

The highest new entry belongs to local rappers Bonez MC & RAF Camora feat. Gzuz at #26 with "Mörder", the second single from their soon-to-be-released studio album. The song arrives at #26, just a position above their previous chart entry - "Palmen aus Plastik". The latter enters the top 30 for the first time by climbing six to #27, in what appears to be surprising chart longevity for German rap songs.

The next radio-friendly hit can be found at #32 in the shape of "Human" of Rag'n'Bone Man, which soars from #63. It is the first chart entry for the British singer.

Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix has cooked up another dance smash with the help of Bebe Rexha, one of the top newcomers of 2016. "In The Name Of Love" goes up to #33 from #54, to become Martin's fourth top 40 single in the country. It is the third appearance for Bebe Rexha in the top 40, as the singer gained fame with G-Eazy's "Me, Myself & I".

After the success of "Holland" (peak #18 and one of the hits of Germany's summer), local duo 257ers have another top 40 single on their hands as "Holz" moves nine to #35. And finally, although I don't expect it to rise any further (now, with the 2016 Olympic Games already behind us), Katy Perry's sports anthem "Rise" enters the top 40 at its rear end. It's at #39, up from #47.

The Album Chart

No less than eight new albums find their way directly inside the top ten of this week's LP countdown, led by Die Lochis, the YouTube sensation from Germany and their first ever album "#Zwilling". "The Last Stand" enters at #2 to become the best performing album of Swedish power metal band Sabaton. It is followed at #3 by "Midgard" of local folk-metal group Faun, also a career-best, and at #4 by "Brave Enough", the latest from Lindsey Stirling. It is actually her third LP to peak at #4. The German rap scene is presented at #6 with HB13 and "Bang Bang", while Faun's colleagues from Feuerschwanz enter the top ten for the first time with "Sex is muss" at #7. The schlager and party genre is responsible for the remaining two top-ten new entries - at #8 we have "Das Beste" from Daniela Alfinito (she has had so far only one album charting in the top 100) and at #9 lands the latest from Dorfrocker called "Heimat.Land.Liebe".

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 19.08.2016

The remix of Imany'"Don’t Be So Shy" by Russian DJs Filatov & Karas spends its seventh week atop the German singles chart, becoming one of the most successful tracks produced by Russian artists in the country. It is once again followed by "Cold Water" of Major Lazer feat. Justin Bieber & MØ, while Felix Jaehn feat. Alma are still at #3 with "Bonfire".

DJ Snake and Justin Bieber move up four positions closer to the summit in the second week of "Let Me Love You" in the countdown. The song can be found at #4.

After a long and more or less steady climb, US rock band Disturbed finally make it to the top 20 with their take on "Sound of Silence", the 60s classic of Simon and Garfunkel. The song flies to #13 from #22.
Watch - Disturbed

It's one step up for  and her "Final Song" is now at #18, while The Chainsmokers prove to be one of the hottest acts of 2016. After already heaving huge success this year with "Roses" (peak #24, 27 weeks in the chart) and "Don't Let Me Down" (peak #6, this week still in the top 20, at #14), the US DJ duo of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall have another hit on their cards - the song is called "Closer" and with the help of the vocals of Halsey, it skyrockets from #43 to #20.

twenty one pilots's "Heathens" advances this week by four positions to #22, a place ahead of the highest new entry. "Es war einmal..." is the second offering of the forthcoming album of German hip hop trip Beginner (to be released this Friday). As I've duly noted when the first single "Ahnma" came around, this is the first new material of the band (formerly known as Absolute Beginner) in more than 13 years. Furthermore, "Ahnma" has showed a surprising longevity for a rap song and is still in the top 30, this week up three to #21.

At #26, up from #33, Alvaro Soler makes it inside the top 30 with "Sofia" just in time before the summer reaches its zenith.

And finally - two more new peaks are registered in the the top 40 - rappers Bonez MC & Raf Camora rise one to #33 with "Palmen aus Plastik" and their US colleague Kent Jones moves up two to #36 with "Don't Mind".

#93. Fler - Du hast den schoensten Arsch der Welt

The Album Chart

In the LP chart "Der Holland Job" of Coup, the collaboration of German rappers Haftbefehl and Xatar, becomes the next rap album to land itself directly at the summit. It is the first #1 album for Haftbefehl and the second for Xatar. At #2, up from #25, we can observe how the broadcasting of Andrea Berg's concert in prime time on public television has helped her former number one LP "Seelenbeben" to boost its sales and to return in the top three. I am also certain that this would help ticket sales for the forthcoming tour and I am just wondering - is ARD getting some profit from these sales and why on earth the TV station only promotes schlager stars? Anyway, back to chart business - the LP top three is completed with Billy Talent's "Afraid Of Heights" at #3, while local rock bands Letzte Instanz and Equilibrium debut at #4 and #5 with respectively "Liebe im Krieg" and "Armageddon".

It's definitely summer when you see Mike Perry and Shy Martin entering the top ten with "The Ocean". The track moves up five to #6. Two positions behind, at #8, arrives the highest new entry for the week. It belongs to DJ Snake with the help of Justin Bieber (who else?) and the single "Let Me Love You". While his previous single "Middle" stumbled in Germany by reaching only #49, DJ Snake is partly responsible for last year's anthem "Lean On", which of course was credited also to Major Lazer. The latter, as you already know, is at #2 with "Cold Water", which also features Bieber on vocal duties. It's a family affair, the German chart...

The summer vibes continue at #9 with Jonas Blue and "Perfect Strangers" climbing eight to become the second top ten hit of the British musician.

"Suicide Squad" may be arriving in German cinemas next Thursday but that doesn't stop the songs featured in its soundtrack to storm the upper reaches of the chart (and many say they are the only good thing around the film...). "Heathens" of twenty one pilots also makes it to the top 30 by flying from #45 to #26.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 29.07.2016

As Imany's "Don't Be So Shy" clocks up a full month as Germany's most beloved single, Major Lazer, the music project behind recent chart smashes "Lean On" and "Light It Up" (both with peak at #4), is back with another hit, this time with the support of Justin Bieber and "Cold Water" not only managed to remove Drake's "One Dance" as UK's #1 after the (embarrassing) incredible 15 weeks but in Germany arrives also big at #2. Justin Bieber has already had two hits on his hands recently, in the shape of "Sorry" and "Love Yourself", while Danish singer MØ made "Lean On" unforgettable and is currently enjoying a solo success with her own "Final Song". The latter enters the top 40 this week at #38, up from #51.

Although featuring the vocals of German veteran Herbert Grönemeyer, Felix Jaehn's previous release "Jeder für Jeden" stumbled to make big impact as it peaked at #27 before fading away quickly. Now, however, the DJ and producer is quickly back with new material. "Bonfire", with vocal support provided by a singer called Alma, climbs from #32, where it entered last week, to #13.

Mike Perry's debut "The Ocean" is up six to #15, while Enrique Igleasias' "Duele el Corazon" goes up three to #17.
