German Chart Comments - Issue Date 26.02.2016

As Alan Walker spends his third week atop the German chart with the amazing "Faded", Steroact and the even more amazing take of "Die immer lacht" moves up one to #2, while providing them with their first ever hit in Germany "Stressed Out" of Twenty One Pilots advances three to #3. All in all, we have a completely fresh and exciting top three this week.

Supported by a just released video, Rihanna and Drake bring "Work" inside the top ten, up six to #6. Thus the number of top-ten singles with Rihanna's participation rises to the whopping 23 for just eleven years.

Topic and Nico Santos are up three to #20 with "Home", while Flo Rida is close to having his next top-20 track with "My House" also up three to #21. And also up three, to a new peak at #23, are Yall and Gabriela Richardson with "Hundred Miles".

The parade of dance tracks continues with Zara Larsson and "Never Forget You", which climbs eleven to 30. The song, a collaboration with British producer MNEK, is Zara Larsson's second offering in Germany after "Lush Life" turned to be one of the biggest hits of the last months by reaching #4.

Up one to #31 is "Hymn for the Weekend", the second official release from Coldplay's last studio album. The Chainsmokers and "Roses" can be found at #32, going up from #33.

US singer Mike Posner started his career strongly with "Cooler Than Me" in 2010 (peak in Germany #22) but quickly disappeared from the chart scene. However, now six years later, he is about to have the biggest hit to his name with "I Took A Pill In Ibiza" and especially the remix made by Norwegian duo SeeB. The song was already huge in Scandinavia and is soon to conquer the entire world.

"Jolene", not only one of the most famous songs of country legend Dolly Parton but one of the best songs to ever see the light (fact), was (of course) never a hit in Germany. Now local duo The BossHoss, with the help of Dutch duo The Common Linnets (of Eurovision fame), has decided to cover it, and the result has slowly crept inside the top 40. It's up two this week to #38.

The highest of only three new entries comes in at #44. "Diese Nacht ist jede Sünde wert" is the comeback single of schlager legend Andrea Berg, who is ready with a new album (which will probably hit several times platinum). Berg, however, has never had a big success with her singles, so the new song easily scores the best placing for a track she has ever released.

The other new entries:

91. Charlie Puth - One Call Away
94. Jason Derulo - Get Ugly

The Album Chart

Just for a change the schlager stars managed to beat the rap ones as the latest album of schlager duo Fantasy tops the LP countdown. "Freudensprünge" is the second album in a row of the NRW boys to crown the listing. Thus, rapper Kurdo has to be satisfied with the #2 entry of his "Verbrecher aus der Wüste". And though often rap albums enter the chart higher than those of schlager stars, the latter show much higher longevity in it.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 5.02.2016

EFF's "Stimme" clocks up three weeks at the summit of the German singles charts, once again followed by "Stitches" of Shawn Mendes at #2 and by "Love Yourself" of Justin Bieber at #3.

The highest new entry comes in at #5 belonging to Zayn, the member of One Direction who left the band last year. Shockingly enough his debut solo single "Pillowtalk" manages to beat all chart placings of One Direction in Germany, who in their career had only one single creeping inside the top ten - "Drag Me Down" from 2015 when Zayn had already said goodbye to the other boys. Whether he will turn into the next Justin or Robbie, only time will tell.

Two of the dance anthems of early 2016 storm the top ten this week and will certainly challenge the reign of EFF in the next days. At #7, up from #16, we can find Jonas Blue and Dakota with "Fast Car", while Alan Walker's smash "Faded" is at #8, up from #17.

Outside the top ten, G-Eazy and Bebe Rexha rise two to #11 with "Me, Myself and I", while Elle King's "Ex's and Oh's" goes up also two, to #18. New to the top 20 is "Die immer lacht" of Stereoact and Kerstin Ott, who actually wrote the song several years ago before Stereoact made its rendition of it.

The second new entry of the week appears at #26 courtesy of Lamiya, or the next German YouTube-related celebrity (not her, but her sister!?! or something). The track is called "Glow".

The neverending string of dance project continues at #38 with Barcelona-based Yall and the vocals of Gabriela Richardson. "Hundred Miles" is already gaining steam in many countries, it's in the French top five, so needless to say, the song is destined to climb in Germany as well.
Watch - Yall

Although there may have been not many who connect the 2014 hit "Selfie" (peak #38) with The Chainsmokers, it's US house duo who this week has its second hit-candidate in the face of "Roses". It sits comfortably at #39, up from #56.

The Album Chart

There are six new entries inside the top ten of the German album charts led once again by a rapper at #1. This time it's SSIO and his third and most successful album "0.9" at #1. German power metal band Avantasia score their third consecutive #2 album in their career with "Ghostlights".
Dream Theater return with their fourth album in a row directly to land inside the top five, it's called "The Astonishing" and is at #5, followed by the latest of Runrig "The Story" at #6. The collection of Phil Collins "Take A Look At Me Now" arrives at #9, just one position above "Dystopia", the 16th studio album of Megadeth and astonishingly their first to enter the top ten.

Further down the top 20 we can see all candidates for the biggest hits in early 2016 climbing, with Lukas Graham's "7 Years" up four to #6, Dua Lipa's "Be The One" up nine to #12, G-Eazy ft. Bebe Rexha and "Me, Myself & I" up four to #13,  X Ambassadors' "Renegades" up 13 to #14 and Sigala's "Sweet Lovin'" up one to #15. Apart from Sigala, these are all debut singles for the artists in the German hitparade. Also shooting itself inside the top 20 in its second week is "Fast Car" of Jonas Blue ft. Dakota, which rises from #41 to #16. Another dance smash - "Faded" of Alan Walker also makes it to the top 20, up to #17 from #30 in its third week. And let's not forget "Exs and Ohs" of Elle King, up five to #20, and a debut single for the singer as well. More or less, ten of the top 20 singles are the first songs with which the corresponding artists have succeeded in Germany.

The Album Chart

In the LP chart, which as of February 5 will also include streaming, another rapper - this time Summer Cem debuts at #1 with career-best "Cemesis" (last week's #1 plummets to #13 - which just shows how frontloaded the sales of these rap albums are). There are three other new entries inside the top three, with the only one worth mentioning is "4 1/2", a mini album of Steven Wilson at #7.
