German Chart Comments - Issue Date 26.12

After returning to the top spot last week, "Dangerous" of David Guetta and Sam Martin stays there for a fourth non-consecutive time. Its sales were boosted by the appearance of Guetta on the finale of The Voice of Germany two weeks ago. As a whole, this week's countdown is influenced by the show as at #2, up from #23, Germans have finally found out about "Take Me To Church" of Hozier despite the song being around for ages. As Hozier sang it during the finale together with winner Charley Ann Schmutzler, the song easily improves on the #20 peak achieved before. Speaking of the winner and her finale song "Blue Heart", it rises from #29 to #3. Still don't expect anyone to remember Charley Ann in two months.

Ed Sheeran scores his third top ten hit in Germany also thanks to The Voice of Germany where he performed "Thinking Out Loud", which now rises six to #6.

German rock band Frei.wild has had chart appearances since 2010 but they have never charted higher than #19, an injustice now undone as their newest single "Wir brechen eure Seelen" debuts straight at #9.

"Au Revoir" of Mark Forster is definitely one of the hits of the year in Germany and it's great to see the singer's next single also performing well as "Flash mich" rises 16 to #14.

The next new entries belong to two relative newcomers on the German music scene. At #18 Joel Brandenstein has managed to bring his debut single "Diese Liebe" inside the top 20 after a successful Internet campaign started by himself. At #20 Nico Suave, helped by one Xavier Naidoo, scores his first ever hit, after two minor chart entries at the lower end of the Top 100, with "Danke".

At #22 Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" moves up from #38, while soaring from #95 to #34 is the version of "Hallelujah" of the aforementioned Xavier Naidoo. It was performed at the Christmas show of local music competition "Sing meinen Song".

"Uptown Funk", the collaboration of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, is slowly conquering the world as in Germany it goes up two to #43. At the same time Avicii's follow-up to top-ten hit "The Days" called "The Nights" enters the top 50 at #47, an increase from #59.

The Album Chart

In the album chart, as expected Unheilig's farewell album "Gipfelstürmer" becomes the band's third consecutive studio recording to top the countdown as it goes straight at #1. "Nichts ist für die Ewigkeit", the Live album of Böhse Onkelz sees the veteran rockers returning to the chart at #2, while AC/DC's multi-selling LP "Rock Or Bust" is down one to #3.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 12.12

Though the English version of the 2014 take of  "Do They Know It's Christmas" leaves the top ten by plunging nine to #12, the German one (which at least tries to be different) sticks to number one for a second week in a row. Up five to #2 is the Jennifer Lawrence-sung track "The Hanging Tree" from the soundtrack of Mockingjay: Part One - a spectacular and rather unexpected success. The top three is completed by David Guetta and his racing anthem "Dangerous".

AronChupa's "I'm an Albatraoz" advances one to #7, while the highest new entry belongs to Jessie J and her "Masterpiece" at #10. The song is the second single taken from Jessie's "Sweet Talker" album and arrives after "Bang Bang" peaked at #13 recently. Jessie sang "Masterpiece" together with contestants from the Voice Of Germany at the end of November, which can explain why the song has become the singer's second top ten single in the country, next to "Price Tag" (peak #3).

"Diamonds" of Josef Salvat moves up seven to #11, while "Thinking Out Loud" of Ed Sheeran rises eleven to #13 and turns into the singer's fifth top 20 single in Germany. It even manages to improve on the #17 peak of previous release "Don't".

Up four to #16 is "Habits (Stay High)" of Tove Love, while Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding manage to reverse the downward trend of their last collaboration "Outside" as the song rises eleven to #22.

Further down the top 50, George Ezra moves up to #27 from #42 with "Blame It On Me".

As every year, the influx of Christmas hits come holiday time is led by Wham!'s evergreen "Last Christmas", which shoots itself to #31 from #72, while Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is close behind, at #36, up from #79.

"Au Revior" is one of the definite hits of 2014 and Mark Forster is now ready with the follow-up "Flash mich", which enters the top 50 by moving up 21 to #34.

It's up two to #38 for Lorde's "Yellow Flicker Beat" in its second week on the chart. "Blank Space", the second single taken out of Taylor Swift's "1989" album, is gaining momentum as the song advance 20 to #40 being the sixth single of the star in the chart. First offering "Shake It Off" peaked at #5 and is still sticking around.

There is also a new peak for Sam Smith's "I'm Not The Only On", which rises four to #44.

At #48 we can find a new entry of local rapper Haftbefehl with his fourth single in the countdown "Ich Rolle Mit Meim Besten".

In the album chart AC/DC score their fourth number one studio album in Germany with "Rock Or Bust", while also new in the top ten is Haftbefehl with his fourth album and the second to reach #4 in a row - "Russisch Roulette".

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 5.12

Following a several-week hiatus the comments are back with an extremely interesting countdown this week. After David Guetta spent two weeks as number one with "Dangerous", as expected the biggest arrival of the week belongs to Band Aid 30. However, for a change this time we have a German version of the famous song, sung by a bunch of the hottest stars of German music currently. It is thus only the second version of " Do They Know It's Christmas" to reach number one in Germany, next to the original back in 1984. The 1989 version flopped at #74, while the 2004 one peaked at #7. Curiously the so-called local TV Allstars project brought a version of the hit to #3 in 2003, while last week the official line-up of Band Aid 30 debuted at #2 with the current English version of the single. The latter is this week down to #3.

It's extremely rare to see an actor appearing in the charts, let alone in the upper reaches, with a song performed during a movie, but the impact of Jennifer Lawrence singing "The Hanging Tree" in the latest Hunger Games installment was so huge that thanks also to the effect of Internet where now everything can be downloaded, the soundtrack item (written by famous film composer James Newton Howard) debuts at #7. We should not be surprised as after all the song was a stand-up moment of an overall unspectacular film.

Audio

The domination of Swedish artist Aron Michael Ekberg, or AronChupa, over the German chart continues as dance anthem "I'm An Albatraoz" grows two to #8. The vocals are actually provided by Aron's sister.

Video

Further down the top 20, "Wrapped Up", the first single of Olly Murs' newest album, moves up one to #12 in its third week on the chart. It's the fourth top 20 single of the UK star.

Video

Thanks to a great winter track, excellent performance by lead vocalist Samu and last but definitely not least because of the singer's star status in Germany (due to his coach duties in The Voice Of Germany), Sunrise Avenue had their fourth top 20 single in the country with "Nothing Is Over" arriving at #16. It is the second new song taken from Sunrise Avenue's "Best Of" collection, while first one "You Can Never Be Ready" finds inner strength this week and shoots itself to a brand new peak position at #30, up from #57.
Nothing is Over - Live
Video - Sunrise Avenue

The quest of Josef Salvat to conquer the global charts continues as his take on "Diamonds" rises from #42 to enter the top 20 at #18. Also new inside the first 20 after a long climb is "Habits (Stay High)", the break-up anthem of Tove Love, which moves up four to #20.
Josef Salvat - Live
Video - Tove Lo

Up one, and slowly turning into another hit of Ed Sheeran in Germany, is his third "X" single "Thinking Out Loud". It is at #24.
Video

Nothing stands on the way of David Guetta as the release of his new album "Listen" has triggered the interest in several of the non-single tracks in it. The biggest of them is "Hey Mama", a team-up with Nicki Minaj and Afrojack, which enters new at #28.
Audio

Although we can expect a quick downfall, Farin Urlaub and his Racing Team bring another top 40 singe with "AWG" debuting at #32. It is the second single from the "Faszination Weltraum" album, with first one "Herz? Verloren" reaching #12, and also the tenth "solo" top 40 single of Urlaub.
Video

The arrival of Jennifer Lawrence's "Hanging Tree" hasn't prevented the official "Hunger Games" track of Lorde to enter the countdown as it can be found at #40. "Yellow Flicker Beat" is thus the third top 40 single of the New Zealand singer.
Video

The success of AC/DC in their singles era continues as the second official release from the band's new album enters at #49. "Rock or Bust" comes after "Play Ball" reached #39.
Video

The other new entries:

58. Sasha - Good Days
Video
75. David Guetta ft. Emeli Sandé - What I Did For Love
78. Adel Tawil - Kartenhaus

81. Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk!

85. David Guetta ft. John Legend - Listen
93. David Guetta ft. The Script - Goodbye Friend
94. David Guetta & Showtek ft. Elliphant & Ms. Dynamite - No Money No Love

96. David Guetta ft. Jaymes Young & Birdy - I'll Keep Loving You

The Album Chart

When it comes to the biggest stars in Germany's albums market, no one can claim the dominant position of one Herbert Groenemeyer as his string of number one albums continues unharmed since his release of "4630 Bochum" in 1984. "Dauernd Jetzt" is the tenth consecutive studio album of the German star to reach the summit and comes three years after "Schiffsverkehr". Only three studio albums of David Guetta have entered the German chart, with the latest "Listen" entering at #3. His previous one "Nothing but the Beat" peaked at #1.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 14.11

Germans continue to be crazy about the bass of Meghan Trainor as her "All About That Bass" smashes the competition for a six week in a row. Robin Schulz and Jasmine Thompson have to stall at #2 with "Sun Goes Down", while The Avener returns to the top three, up one, with "Fade Out Lines".

German rock band Unheilig, around singer Der Graf, is showing no sign of losing any fans as new single "Zeit zu gehen" debuts at #6. Apart from the fact that we haven't got a top-ten new entry in a few weeks, the single is also worth mentioning as it not only marks the first release from Unheilig's 8th studio album but also, as the title suggests it, signals the end of the band's career. Their new album and subsequent tour will be the last but at least Der Graf and co. can be proud of already having six top-ten singles in Germany.

Within the top 20 Maroon 5's "Animals" is advancing two to #11, while "Back Home" of  Fritz Kalkbrenner is up three to #17.

The release of Calvin Harris' new album may have not been extremely successful in Germany ("Motion" lands at #20) but the dance superstar have the honour to simultaneously bring two new hits in the top 30. His collaboration with Big Sean called "Open Wide" is at #22, up from #67, while "Outside", with the help of Ellie Goulding, is at #25, up from #49.

A version of "Wolke 7" sung by the participants of The Voice of Germany has caused the return of the track of Max Herre and Philipp Poisel at #33. First time around it reached #6.

"I'm An Albatraoz" of Swedish newcomer AronChupa has already topped the Swedish chart in the summer and now it's time for the song to conquer the German ones too as in its second week it soars from #74 to #35.

Sam Smith's "I'm Not The Only One" rises four to #46, while the second new entry is a cover of Rihanna's number-one "Diamonds" by Australian Josef Salvat. The song arrives at #50.

The Album Chart

It's rarely seen for an album to advance to the top of the German chart but when it belongs to legend Udo Juergens it could have been expected as his 42nd album "Mitten Im Leben-Das Tribute Album" becomes only the third one in his long career to reach the summit. German musician  Laith Al-Deen may have been long absent from the singles chart but his success in the album countdown continues and his latest offering named "Was wenn alles gut geht" debuts at #2. Rapper Curse and "Uns" arrives at #5, while the newest Christmas release of Gregorian called "Winter Charms" enters at #6. "The Basement Tapes Raw: The Bootleg Series Vol. 11" of Bob Dylan & The Band is new at #9.

Cinema releases in Bulgaria - 7 November 2014

This week sees Interstellar and The Boxtrolls landing in Bulgaria's cinemas. Interstellar of Christopher Nolan - maybe the most prominent director these days, has been expected since Batman of Christan Bale made his last voyage. Though not all critics are convinced of the film's merits, and by the look of the trailers the movie will probably deliver more in terms of visuals and slogans, rather than in a coherent story, Interstellar would definitely be a fantastic cinema trip. Catch it only on IMAX.

It's not so often for productions of the British Laika studio to be released in Bulgaria (previous title Paranorman was not so lucky), but from this week The Boxtrolls will enchant children and open-minded adults alike. Though the visuals are not slick enough in the way Disney make them, the film will definitely score in terms of wit, characters and story.

Also new this week we have US indie horror Jessabelle, which seems to be a useless addition to the cinema calendar. No one is going to watch it here. At the same time Russian film The Geographer Drank His Globe Away is being released in the independent cinemas in Sofia. I managed to watch it during Sofia Film Fest and definitely recommend it. It's extremely funny and simultaneously dramatic and offers a realistic picture on contemporary Russia. On a limited release you can also see Croatia's The Priest's Children and Bulgaria's documentary The Last Black Sea Pirates. Yes, there is plenty for everyone...

The best movies currently on Bulgaria's screens:
(the ones I've watched)

1. Gone Girl *****
2. The Nightcrawler ***** (extremely topical, with a terrific turn from Jake - a movie you won't forget soon)
3. John Wick ****1/2 (excellent Keanu, a great adrenaline ride) 4. The Maze Runner **** 5. Fury ****
6. The Geographer Drank His Globe Away **** (Russia's deep province nowadays)
7. The Equalizer ***
8. Interstellar (rating soon)
9. The Boxtrolls (rating soon)

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 7.11

It's five times lucky for "All About That Bass" and Meghan Trainor as the song is still Germany's most bought single. Up two, and showing no mercy as long as the upper reaches of the countdown are concerned, is Robin Schulz and "Sun Goes Down", which occupies the runner-up slot. Vocals on the track are provided by Jasmine Thompson, who has just turned 14.

The top three is rounded up by Sheppard and "Geronimo" still at #3.
Video - Sheppard

After a slow start, "Auf Anderen Wegen", the great follow-up of #1 smash "Auf uns" of Andreas Bourani, soars some 25 positions to enter the top ten at #8. It is the second single of Bourani inside the first ten. The song profited from a cover version on The Voice of Germany.

Australian singer Sia has already scored three top ten singles on her account but only thanks to her guest appearances on songs of David Guetta and Flo Rida. Now, the time to conquer the chart with her own material finally comes as "Chandelier" rises nine to #10.
Video - Sia

Up ten to #13 this week we have "Animals" of Maroon 5, becoming the eight single of the US band in the top 20. Also on the rise are Maroon 5's Canadian colleagues from Nickelback with "What Are You  Waiting For" at #15, up five.

"Outside", the third single of Calvin Harris' latest album, enters the top 50 at #49, up from #84 where it debuted last week. The song is a new collaboration with Ellie Goulding. Calvin actually has another new single, which you can check at #67. Also on the rise in his second week is Sam Smith and his third solo single "I'm Not The Only One". The track climbs 26 to #50.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 31.10

Not much going on in this week's German singles chart as the highest new entry can be found as low as at #73 and Meghan Trainor spends a fourth week on top with "All About That Bass". The Avener's dance track "Fade Out Lines" regains one slot to #2, while "Geronimo" of Sheppard makes it inside the top three by also moving up one.

At #4, and entering the top five up from #9, is Robin Schulz ft. Jasmine Thompson and "Sun Goes Down".

At #21, coinciding with the release of his third album, Fritz Kalkbrenner scores his best performing single in terms of a chart peak as "Back Home" soars 27 positions. Fritz is most famous for his track "Sky and Sand", a collaboration with his brother Paul, which reached #29 but remained in the chart for the incredible 129 weeks.

The guys from Maroon 5 continue their steady rise with "Animals" as the song moves up nine to #23. Finding somewhat surprising wind beneath her wings is Charli XCX and "Boom Clap" as the already quite old song rebounds to #36 from #60.
Video - Maroon 5

After spending the last few months occupying various positions between #50 and #60, a cover performance on the Voice of Germany was the impetus needed by Tove Lo and her global hit "Habits (Stay High)" to finally enter the top 40. The song soars 20 places to #38.
Video

And finally, also thanks to its exposure on The Voice of Germany, country superstar Keith Urban has his first ever top 50 single in Germany as his 2002 track "Somebody Like You" has benefited from a cover on the show and is this week up to #42 from #97.

Cinema releases in Bulgaria - 31 October 2014

I hope you've managed to catch up with most of the good movies currently in Bulgaria's cinemas as this week offers three more which by the look of it seem unmissable. Prior to their presentation, however, I want to give some thoughts on the films which I watched in the past seven days. First of them was the rather good, though not perfect, Fury. It's all been there, done that territory, but the movie offers some great performances, especially on behalf of the supporting cast, as well as some stunning war images. Though the tank action is not as plenty as it should have been, it's still one of the better war movies in the past few years. You can still catch it on IMAX or in the majority of cinemas in the country. The movies which you however will not be able to see any more on the big screen (unless Sony changes its distributor here in the next few weeks) are Whiplash and Foxcatcher, which were part of the So Independent festival. The two titles should immediately join the best-of list for 2014 shining with great performances, unique stories and asking more questions than giving direct answers to the audience. In Whiplash JK Simmons makes a career-best appearance as the all-demanding teacher in a music school - is he the villain or the hero of the story? At the same time, the three main performances in Foxcatcher scream Oscars whichever way you look at them. Channing Tatum finally shows some acting chops, while Steve Carell is just unrecognizable, sinking in the role of a multimillionaire burdened with too many issues. And as it is the case with many such films, they will not get a regular distribution here...

As regard the new releases this week: Nightcrawler, St. Vincent and John Wick - all of them come with glowing reviews from abroad, high scores on IMDB and don't be a fool to miss any of them and go watch Dracula Untold instead...

Nightcrawler sees Jake Gyllenhaal as a seeker of sensational news and comes with comparisons to modern classic Drive and a 8.5 rating on IMDB, coupled with a five-star review from Empire. I am quite certain that the movie would be a real thrill-ride but would definitely not be anyone's cup of tea.
Trailer

Next up is John Wick, which stars Keanu Reeves, who is back kicking asses and killing as many people as he can. With a 8.1 rating on IMDB and testimony of some friends who have already seen it, it's definitely worth watching.
Trailer

And finally comes St. Vincent, the movie of which many of you would have probably never heard. It actually comes as the first film headed by Bill Murray in years, starring also the ever-excellent Melissa McCarthy and Naomi Watts. Many of the Bulgarian film "critics" have praised the title as one of the films of the year, making you both laugh and cry. We'll see that soon.
Trailer

The best movies currently on Bulgaria's screens:
(the ones I've watched)

1. Gone Girl *****
2. The Maze Runner ****
3. Fury ****
4. The Equalizer ***
5. The Hundred-Foot Journey ***

And the ones to be watched soon:

1. The Judge
2. The Nightcrawler
3. A Walk Among The Tombstones
4. St. Vincent
5. John Wick

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 24.10

The number of weeks of Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" as Germany's number one rises to three as the hit is unmovable at the summit despite the re-entry at #2 of a song which gained popularity due to its cover on The Voice Of Germany. The track in question is called "Keine ist wie du" and belongs to Gregor Meyle, whose debut single "Niemand" has been so far the only one to crack the top 50, peaking at #30 in 2008. Down one to #3 is "Fade Out Lines", the former number one of The Avener.
Audio - Gregor Meyle
Video - Meghan Trainor
Video - The Avener

Further down the top 10, up one to #5 and having the honour to become the first ever top 5 single of Taylor Swift is still the catchy "Shake It Off".
Video - Taylor Swift

Robin Schulz, with the help of Jasmine Thompson, is also on the rise as "Sun Goes Down" goes up five to #9. It is thus the first song credited entirely to Robin Schulz as a main artist to make it to the top ten in his home country.
Video

Better late than never but Sam Smith's "Stay With Me" finds some inner strength to register a new peak at #11, up eight, despite that promotion of his next single in the country has already begun.
Video

Up two to #20 is Hozier and "Take Me To Church" - a perfect example for a great autumn hit.

The Album Chart

So Shindy has a second album at #1 in his short career as "FVCKB!TCHE$GETMONEY" manages to outsell U2's latest "Songs of Innocence", which is at #2. Thus the Irish band is deprived to have their ninth number one LP in Germany. Folk duo You+Me and their first album "Rose Ave." enters the chart at #6, while at #8 the Lichtmond project brings its third album called "Days of Eternity.

Cinema releases in Bulgaria - 24 October 2014

In a peculiar twist in the Bulgarian film distribution, two movies released by independent companies will fight for the attention of more or less the same audience this weekend. Whichever wins, the audience will definitely have much to enjoy as the titles are definitely worth seeing. In addition, the latest edition of the So Independent festival will offer a small selection of US indie movies which will otherwise never seen the light (or is it the darkness?) of the cinema hall in the country.

Riding on a wave of strong reviews and the first place in the US box office, Fury, starring Brad Pitt and telling the story of a group of soldiers and their tank stranded somewhere deep in Germany at the end of the World War II, has been on my watch list for quite some time. The cast is definitely strong, the trailers look excellent, though the former film of director David Ayer - the bloody awful Schwarzenegger vehicle Sabotage is a reason to bear something in mind. Anyway, I am particularly certain that Fury will eventually deliver. And we should also appreciate the fact that the title is the first film released by an indie distributor on the two IMAX screens in Sofia. You can also watch it on 4DX in Cinema City Paradise. (Trailer)

A Walk Among The Tombstones may have been a misfire in the US, but with reviews on the positive side and Liam Neeson looking to be in a good form (in vigilante mood of course), it may be a positive surprise. And it also features Dan "Downtown Abbey" Stevens, who should get more cinema roles. Fingers crossed, this is more Taken 1 than Taken 2. (Trailer)

This week the little ones can also enjoy German 3D animation Knight Rusty, which doesn't seem to offer anything for cinemagoers who are not in the kindergarten.  (Trailer)

As regard the So Independent fest, the films which I intend to catch up this week are: Whiplash, Foxcatcher, The Master, The Words and Joe.

The best movies currently on Bulgaria's screens:
(the ones I've watched)

1. Gone Girl *****
2. Guardians of the Galaxy *****
3. The Maze Runner ****
4. The Equalizer ***
5. The Hundred-Foot Journey ***

And the ones to be watched soon:

1. The Judge
2. Fury
3. A Walk Among The Tombstones

Trailer of the week: - Avengers 2: The Age of Ultron (Release date: 24 April 2015)

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 17.10

Going on with her worldwide dominance, US newcomer Meghan Trainor spends a second week on top of the German chart with the all-conquering "All about that Bass". French project The Avener and "Fade out Lines", which spent a brief week on the top two weeks ago now recoups one position and is at #2, up from #3. Down one, to #3, is David Guetta, who is already ready with his next single, with former number one "Lovers On the Sun".

"Geronimo", one of the 2014 songs for me, of Australian band Sheppard is up a notch to #4, while definitely becoming her best performing single in Germany, Taylor Swift's "Shake It Up" advances two to #6.

Apart from his involvement in the David Guetta's current #3 single (his hands are all over the track), Avicii's last single in the German charts "Lay Me Down" reached #35. The dance superstar is now however back on form with completely new material at #7. "The Days" is the first single taken from the upcoming "Stories" LP and increases Avicii's top ten singles count to five. And yes, this is Robbie Williams on vocal duties...

Several months ago "Amoi seg’ ma uns wieder", the 2008 release of Andreas Gabalier was taken out of the archives thanks to a cover by Xavier Naidoo in a show with the participation of both Gabalier and Naidoo. Then, the single debuted in the top 20 to slowly exit the chart but to return this week with aplomb at #9 and to become the first top ten single of the Austrian volksmusic singer. The current renewal of the interest in "Amoi seg’ ma uns wieder" is thanks to a participant of the Supertalent show who decided to sing it during the contest.

Robin Schulz is just unstoppable as his latest single, this time credited to his own name, "Sun Goes Down" (with the vocals of Jasmine Thompson) is up nine to #14. It is the third single with his involvement in the top 20.

Following a six-year absence Lenny Kravitz is back into the top 20 as "The Chamber" rises from #31 to #17. Thus, the number of top 20 tracks of the rockstar rises to five.

Nickelback were last in the chart with "Lullaby" in 2012 and now are back with the first official single taken from their "No Fixed Address" album. The song debuts at #20 to become the fifth top 20 single of the band.
Lyric Video

At #22, up from #27, we can find Hozier's "Take Me To Church", while in its second week on the countdown Tokio Hotel's "Love Who Loves You Back" soars to #38 from #94. This is the first single of Tokio Hotel in the chart in five years and the first one sung in English. Unfortunately, it is also the first one to miss the top five.

AC/DC is a group which is more to be seen in the LP chart than in the singles one, with their last single there being "Hard As A Rock" from 1996. Now, the guys are back in the top 40 with a new material as "Play Ball" debuts at #39.

And finally, following the success of "Maps" (peak #6), Maroon 5's follow-up "Animals" enters this week the top 50 as it rises 23 positions to #41.

The Album Chart

Sunrise Avenue score their first ever #1 album this week as their best of compilation "Fairytales" debuts directly at #1. The boys' previous album, "Unholy Ground", peaked at #3. Tokio Hotel thus have to deal with their first, out of four, albums to miss the top spot in Germany as "Kings Of Suburbia" enters at #2. Bryan Adams' "Tracks of my Years" can be found this week at #5, while local rapper Bizzy Montana makes a career best with "Mukke aus der Unterschicht 4" coming in at #6. At #10, "Insel", the fourth album of local band Juli, makes a rather disappointing new entry.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 3.10

Klingande, Faul & Wad Ad, Lilly Wood & The Prick... the list of French artists topping the German chart with ease with their more or less similar debut production is enhanced this week by The Avener and his "Fade Out Lines". The song, which samples the track of the same name of  Phoebe Killdeer and the Short Straws, goes straight to number one to replace fellow countryman David Guetta and his "Lovers on the Sun". The latter moves to #3 after spending two months on the top.

Inbetween at #2, up seven, current US and future UK chart topper "All About that Bass" of Meghan Trainor is trying to conquer Germany as well.

As I predicted last week, the effect of the Bundesvision song contest will have its full blow this week as winning song "Lass uns gehen" of Revolverheld moves up to #4 from #28 to become the band's fifth top ten single. The guys' "Helden 2008" reached #2 in 2008.

Thanks to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, US musician Fences has his first ever hit in Germany with "Arrows" debuting at #8. It doesn't hurt that the song is actually quite good.
Video

Up four to #9, and turning into only the second single of Taylor Swift ("I Knew You Were Trouble" peaked at #9) to reach the top ten, "Shake It Off" is already one of the autumn hits of the year.
Video

"Herz Verloren" is the pilot single of the newest album of Farin Urlaub Racing Team, the group of the Die Aerzte musician, and enters at #12 to beat the #14 peak of "Zehn (live)" - so far the best performing single of FURT.
Video

"The Chamber" of Lenny Kravitz continues its climb and this week is up five to #21.

Also on the back of the Bundesvision and after the phenomenal success of number one hit "Auf uns", Andreas Bourani scores his third top 40 single as "Auf anderen Wegen" enters the countdown at #32.
Audio

Robin Schulz debuts this week in the LP chart with his first album "Prayer" at #7 and brings yet another dance track inside the top 40. "Sun Goes Down", which can be found at #37, is a collaboration with British singer Jasmine Thompson
Audio

At #38, up two, is Hozier with "Take Me To Church", while Sunrise Avenue are back with a new track called "You Can Never Be Ready" at #41. The guys' previous single "Little Bit Love" flopped at #80, though the new material is Sunrise Avenue's ninth top 50 single in Germany.

The Album Chart

After his previous two albums peaked at #3 and #2, respectively, local singer Clueso finally has a number one LP to his account with "Stadtrandlichter". The album leads a parade of 12 new albums inside the top 20, and is followed by the latest offerings of Lenny Kravitz at #2, Joe Bonamassa at #3 and Leonard Cohen at #4.
