German Chart Comments - Issue Date 28.06

The top three is unchanged for yet another week with Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" (third week at #1), Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" and Capital Cities' "Safe and Sound" keeping the positions one to three.

It's also great to see OneRepublic having Germany as their best (and perhaps the only huge) market worldwide as "Counting Stars", the third single from the guys' "Native" album, advancing four to #6. It does matches the peak of previous single "If I Lose Myself". It's the seventh song of OneRepublic reaching the top ten in Germany.

Video

New to the top ten this week is Bastille's "Pompeii", which soars from #22 to #7. It is the first song of the British band to ever chart in Germany, and will definitely be one of the hits there this summer.

Video

It took a few weeks but Calvin Harris finally has his best performing single in Germany as "I Need Your Love" makes a move to #13 from #17. Harris has, however, a #1 song on his account with his participation in Rihanna's "We Found Love".
Video

Somewhat surprisingly due to the lack of any promotion and in view of its performance elsewhere, Fergie's "Great Gatsby" title "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)" climbs six to #15, becoming the fourth solo single of the Black Eyed Peas star in Germany. (Yes, I know that Q-Tip and Goonrock are also credited but who cares...)
Lyric Video

UK's former #1 "La La La" of Naughty Boy is also making its way towards the upper reaches of the German countdown as the song moves nine to #26. It's the first single for Naughty Boy and singer Sam Smith in Germany's top 100.
Video

Following a heavy promotion on MTV/VIVA, Tom Odell finally has hit worldwide with "Another Love", which this week rises four to #30.
Video

UK star Dizzee Rascal has been in the German top 50 only once as a lead artist so far with the #48 peak of "Dance wiv Me" in 2008. Now, however, with the support of the one Robbie Williams, his "Goin' Crazy" debuts at the rather better #32.
Video

Five positions behind, at #37, Alex Hepburn's "Under" makes a welcome comeback in the top 50, an increase from #70.

Video

At #42 Jason Derulo's "The Other Side" returns to the top 50, up from #80, while "If You Could See Me Now", The Script's follow-up to #2 hit "Hall Of Fame" advances seven to #45.

In between, C.G. Project feat. EbGb by Carmen Geiss are responsible for the second new entry in the top 100 called "My City Miami", which comes in at #44.

The Album Chart

Schlager duo Die Amigos score their fourth number one album this week as "Im Herzen" debuts directly at the top, replacing Black Sabath's "13", which moves down to #2. LaBrassBanda, who were beaten for the Eurovision contest by Cascada, register a small victory as their third studio album "Europa" enters new at #3. Also new is the "Mythology" compilation of Bee Gees at #9.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 14.06

Expectedly, Robin Thicke has his first ever number one in Germany this week with "Blurred Lines", which rises one to claim the summit from Daft Punk. "Get Lucky" is thus now at #2 after spending two weeks on top, while Capital Cities' "Safe And Sound" continues to stick at #3.

The highest new entry comes just outside the top three, belonging to German rapper Prince Kay One. Just as Kay One, the singer had a top ten hit, supporting Bushido's "Fackeln im Wind" from 2010, while as a lead musician "V.I.P." is easily Kay One's biggest song to date. It comes with the support of The Product G&B, who have completely disappeared after Santana's number one "Maria Maria" from 2000.
Video

Though it seemed that Psy's "Gentleman" would quickly burn out, the song finds some internal strength and shoots this week back in the top 20, to #12 from #25.
Video

The second new entry comes also from a German rapper. Yasha had a huge success with "Lila Wolken", where he provided a helping hand to Marteria and Miss Platnum, with the hit reaching #1 at the end of last year. Now, he is back solo as "Strand" debuts at #19.

Up five to #21 OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" advances towards the top 20, while in its second week Bruno Mars' "Treasure" soars to #25 from #91. The two songs are the third singles from OneRepublic's and Mars' current LPs.

Fergie was last in the top 30 as a lead artist back in 2007 with "Big Girls Don’t Cry" - a situation which now changes as "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)" from the Great Gatsby soundtrack moves three to #29.
Lyric Video

At #36 Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull move up a place from #37, while Rihanna's next official single - "Right Now", a collaboration with David Guetta (who else?), is up five to #43.
Video - J.Lo.
Audio - Rihanna

Up two to #44 is Duke Dumont and his "Need U (100 %)", while at #50 Lana Del Rey barely makes it in the top 50 with its Great Gatsby anthem "Young & Beautiful". Thus she has an unharmed string of top 50 singles in the country, though her previous three never made it inside the top 40.

The Album Chart

The dominance of German artists in the LP chart continues for yet another week as Xavier Naidoo scores his fifth number one album with "Bei meiner Seele". He is followed by Beatrice Egli, Tim Bendzko, Sportfreunde Stiller and Santiano in a perfectly looking German top five. The second new entry comes in the shape of "...Like Clockwork", the latest album of Queens Of The Stone Age at #7. The debut album of local newcomer Maxim, called "Staub", enters the chart at #10.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 7.06

It's a second week for Daft Punk and "Get Lucky" on top though their reign can soon be over as Robin Thicke's phenomenal "Blurred Lines" soars eleven positions and lands at #2. And yes, Pharrell Williams takes part in the two hits, go figure... At #3 Capital Cities' "Safe And Sound" is simply refusing to exit the top three.
Audio - Daft Punk

Up six to a new peak at #4 Sportfreunde Stiller are having one of their biggest hits to date with "Applaus!! Applaus!!". Now only number one "’54, ’74, ’90, 2006" has charted higher in the Sporties' career.

Lyric Video

Also advancing fast (and hopefully not furious) is 2 Chainz & Wiz Khalifa's "We Own It" as the Fast & Furious 6 song moves up 23 positions and enters the top ten at #5 in its second week. It's easily the best performing single for the two US rappers (Maroon 5's "Payphone" excluded).

Video

Down the countdown, OneRepublic are destined to have a third hit from their current album in Germany as the (great) "Counting Stars" shoots itself from #51 to #26 and becomes the ninth (out of ten) single of Ryan and co in the German top 30. The previous two singles from the "Native" album reached the top 10.

Video

At #30 we have a re-entry of "Stern des Südens" of Bayern-Fans United, which is of course attributed to the huge success of the German football club over the last few weeks.

Audio

As "Great Gatsby" is occupying the top places in the cinema charts, Fergie's anthem from the movie "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)" moves in its second week up 9 positions to #32.

Lyric Video

It's also a new peak for Bastille's "Pompeii", which finally enters the top 40 at #36, up from #50. Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull also return this week to the top 40 as their single "Live It Up" rebounds from #70 to #37. It is however a far cry from the success the two global stars are used to in Germany.
Video - Bastille
Video - J.Lo.

The highest and only new entry inside the top 50 is the dance anthem "Bang Bang (Explode)" of newcomers Df&S vs. Ceresia & Ron Carroll at #42. For now the summer is definitely lacking any strong dance tracks but the next weeks will probably amend that.

Video

And finally, Duke Dumont's UK number one "Need U (100 %)" makes it this week to the top 50 as it soars from #77 to #46. It's the first single of the British DJ in the German charts.

And the other new entries this week:

69. Kamaliya - I'm Alive

90. Ke$ha ft. will.i.am - Crazy Kids

91. Bruno Mars - Treasure

The Album Chart

It's a triumph for German acts in the album chart as Tim Bendzko's sophomore album "Am seidenen Faden" debuts directly at #1. His debut peaked at #4 two years ago. Now Bendzko is followed by Sportfreunde Stiller's sixth studio album "New York, Rio, Rosenheim", which becomes the third LP of the band to peak at #2. They of course have two number ones on their account. The top three is completed by Beatrice Egli's "Glücksgefühle", which is down only one in its second week on release. Also new in the top ten is the debut album of Gleis 8, the group which has taken Anna from Rosenstolz after the duo break-up. "Bleibt das immer so" comes in at #7.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 31.05

An influx of new entries, most of which come from this year's Eurovision contest, characterises this week's German chart. The biggest winner however are Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams who add Germany to the long list of worldwide charts where "Get Lucky" goes to #1. The single advances two and replaces Beatrice Egli and her schlager anthem "Mein Herz" from the summit just a week after the song debuted there. Beatrice is down to #3, while former number one - Capital Cities' "Safe and Sound" is still at number two.

The highest new entry comes from German band Frida Gold, who've been gaining in momentum over the last few years and deservingly "Liebe ist meine Rebellion" becomes their biggest ever hit by entering at #4. The song is based on 90s Gala single "Freed From Desire", which peaked at #14 in 1997.
Video

A position behind Frida Gold we can find Emmelie de Forest, this year's Eurovision winner from Denmark and her "Only Teardrops". The success of the single is far from the #1 smash of Loreen's "Euphoria" from last year, though the latter's performance was more a one-off than a pattern for the contest so the entry of Emmelie inside the top 5 is actually at the end quite an achievement.
Live

As if Norwegian duo Madcon are destined to always come around the Eurovision contest as this week their latest single "One Life" makes (somewhat surprising) appearance in the top ten by hitting the #9 position. It becomes the fourth top ten single of Madcon next to "Beggin'", "Glow" and "Freaky Like Me". The song features the vocals of Kelly Rowland, who is quite accustomed to give a supporting hand to top ten hits.
Video

Inside the top 50, the Eurovision is also to be "blamed" for the #24 new entry of Norway's "I Feed You My Love" by Margaret Berger, the #39 one of Hungary's "Kedvesem (Zoohacker Remix)" by Byealex and the #49 appearance of Anouk's "Birds" from the Netherlands. Music lovers know Anouk with her "Nobody's Wife" from the 90s but it's quite strange to see "Birds" outperforming by a mile the #87 peak of the hit from 1997.

Two cinema hits are responsible for two of the non-Eurovison related new entries in the top 50 this week as Fast & Furious 6 gave us the first proper music hit from the series with "We Own It" of 2 Chainz feat. Wiz Khalifa (new at #28), while The Great Gatsby features the new Fergie song "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)", which enters at #41. Unfortunately the quite better "Young and Beautiful" of Lana Del Rey, which features heavily in the underwhelming movie, appears at just #74.

We should also not overlook the new entries at #40 by Alex Hepburn and "Under" -- the debut single of the promising UK singer; at #44 where Blue follow their top ten hit "Hurt Lovers" with "Without You" (the 14th top 50 hit of the former boy band) and at #46 where Lena brings new material with "Mr. Arrow Key" - the third single taken from the latest album of the German star.

The Album Chart

Daft Punk score this week a double feat as their fourth studio album "Random Access Memories" debuts directly at number one. It thus prevents DSDS's winner Beatrice Egli's debut album from hitting the summit as "Glücksgefühle" enters at #2. As Daft Punk, Thirty Seconds To Mars are also having their biggest moment as "Love Lust Faith + Dreams" comes in at #3, becoming the first album of Jared and co to enter the top 10 in Germany. Also new at #5 is Airbourne's "Black Dog Barking" (second career-best) and at #10 Jamie Cullum's "Momentum" (career-best).
