German Chart Comments - Issue Date 26.04

After five weeks on top Passenger's "Let Her Go" slips this time to #2, clearing the way for Pink to have her second ever #1 single ("Lady Marmalade" not included) with "Just Give Me A Reason". The latter moves up one to claim the summit, where Pink was before with "So What" in 2008. The bronze medals once again belong to Macklemore and Ryan Wilson and "Can't Hold Us".

The Lumineers continue their march towards the top as "Ho Hey" moves up five and this week is at #5. Will.I.Am's collaboration with Justin Bieber, #ThatPower also enters the top 10 at #7, up from #11. Curiously Justin Bieber has never had a single as a lead artist in the top 10.

It's also a new peak for Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive", which climbs three and is at #9. In its second week on the countdown "Safe and Sound" of Capital Cities shoots itself to #10 from #24.

The highest new entry can be found at #13 belonging to Psy and "Gentleman", the follow-up to last year's smash "Gangnam Style". Hate it or love it, Psy is going to have a second hit on his account.

After "Sweet Nothing" peaked at #19 last year, Calvin Harris has made it for a second time in the German top 20 with "I Need Your Love", this week at #20, up from #22. The hit is also a second single for Ellie Goulding among the first 20 positions.

At #26 Nelly registers his 14th top 30 single in Germany as a lead artist with "Hey Porsche", which rises six positions. It's also a new career best for Michael Buble and "It's a Beautiful Day". The song soars from #90 to #28 after the release of Buble's latest album and thus beats the #35 peak of "Let It Snow".

"Spectrum (Say My Name)" of Florence and The Machine may be a little bit old now but by the looks of it, the single is going to soon beat the #30 peak of "Shake It Out" to become the biggest hit of Florence in Germany. Now the song is at #32, up from #53.

It's a re-entry and a new peak for DJane Housekat and "All The Time" at #44. "My Party" of the artist reached #4 last year.

There are further two new entries inside the top 50. A late issue of Sam and The Womp's UK number one "Bom Bom" at #47 and a new offering by last year's DSDS winner Luca Hänni with "Shameless" at #49. The latter is a pilot single from Luca's sophomore album, which fails to even reach the #40 peak of "Hold on My Heart" of runner-up Daniele Negroni from last week.

And the other new entries this week:

#60 Avril Lavigne - Here's To Never Growing Up
#63 Lumidee & Fatman Scoop - Dance 2013
#81 Caro Emerald - Tangled Up
#82 Prinz Pi - Kompass ohne Norden

#92 Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines

The Album Chart

In the album chart Prinz Pi has his first ever #1 album with "Kompass ohne Norden". With it the German rapper even managed to beat Michael Bublé's worldwide smash "To Be Loved", which has to be satisfied with the runner-up slot. Buble has two #1 albums on his account - "Call Me Irresponsible" and "Christmas". Alpa Gun's "Alles kommt zurück" debuts this week at #5, while "Bulletproof", Daniele Negroni's second album, enters at the rather good #7.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 19.04

Passenger's "Let Her Go" stays for a fifth week on top of the German singles chart as Pink's "Just Give Me A Reason" moves up three to #2 to match the peak of previous single "Try". The superstar thus has seven top 3 singles in Germany. Also climbing three and outpacing for the first time previous hit "Thrift Shop", Macklemore's "Can't Hold Us" is at #3.

This week the top ten is entered for the very first time by Wax' "Rosanna" (at #7, up from #15) and by The Lumineer's "Hey Ho" (at #10, up from #23). These are the first hits of the US acts.

Rising a notch at #9 Taylor Swift makes a new career best with "I Knew You Were Trouble".

After debuting at #22 last week, will.i.am and Justin Bieber's "#thatPower" shoots eleven positions to #11.

The heavy use of Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" in advertising over the last weeks has made the song soar to #12 from #39 in its tenth week in the countdown. It thus beats the #20 peak of "It's Time" several months ago.

German musician Maxim may have three albums already but "Meine Soldaten" is his first ever single to enter the German charts and that quite successfully as it is the highest new entry at #18. Thus Maxim joins the list of well-performing male stars from Germany lately, including Max Herre, Gentleman, Bosse, Cro..

At #22 Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding are advancing towards the top 20 with "I Need Your Love" (up from #27). And now with a fresh new video, the song is destined to be huge. Also on the climb is Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man" (an increase from #26 to #23).

The power of the latest Vodafone commercial has made "Safe and Sound" of US duo Capital Cities debut this week at #24. It's a first chart entry for the indie-pop act.

There are also new peaks for Theophilus London's "Wine & Chocolates" at #31, up from #33, and Nelly's "Hey Porsche" at #32, up from #35.

Though "Play Hard" of David Guetta, Ne-Yo and Akon already peaked at #8 as an album cut, now the full promotion of it as a single is to be blamed for the #44-#35 rise of the song.

Before everyone forgets who he is, last year's DSDS runner-up Daniele Negroni makes a debut at #40 with "Hold On My Heart", his fourth top 50 single. For a pilot single from a new album this however is far from a good placing.

For five years The Saturdays have stormed the UK charts but have never charted in Germany. This however changes this week with "What About Us" which enters at #44. The fact that the girls are supported by Sean Paul has also helped. However, why they got zero promotion from Viva is beyond anyone's guess.

I've personally never thought that Alexander Klaws - he's the first winner of DSDS back in 2003, will have a chart career nowadays. But he proves me wrong as "Himmel und Hoelle" enters at #48. With eight top 20 hits, it is only Mark Medlock who can claim to have a more successful post DSDS-career. Alexander was last in the top 100 in 2008.

And the other new entries this week:

55. CHVRCHES - Recover

72. Luca Vasta - Cut My Hair
The Album Chart

Danish metal band Volbeat put an end to the Depeche Mode reign with their fifth album "Outlaw Gentleman & Shady Ladies", which is also the fourth LP of the group to reach #1. Stone Sour have their second album in their career to peak at #3 with "House Of Gold & Bones Part 2". The first part reached #7. Paramore have a second top ten album with the self-titled "Paramore" at #8, while legendary 80s band OMD are back with "English Electric" at #10. "History of Modern" from 2010 was the last album of OMD in the chart.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 12.04

The top three remains unchanged this week as Passenger's "Let Her Go" (fourth week at #1), will.i.am's "Scream & Shout" and Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors" keep positions one to three.

At #6 Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' second hit "Can't Hold Us" moves a notch from #7, which is now occupied by "Impossible" of James Arthur (also up one).

"I Knew You Were Trouble" is now not only the first top 20 single of Taylor Swift in Germany but as it advances four to #10, it becomes her first top ten hit in the country.

The highest new entry at #13 marks a career best for German reggae musician Gentleman. "You Remember" is the first single taken from Gentleman's "New Day Dawn" LP and beats the #16 peak of "To the Top" from 2010. Gentleman's chart career dates back in 2002 but has only picked up since 2010.

And yes, Wax has done it and his "Rosanna" is now officially a top 20 hit as it moves up seven to #15.

The second highest new entry belongs to will.i.am, who is ready with the follow-up to the multi-selling "Scream & Shout". This time with the support of the one Justin Bieber, "#thatPower" debuts at #22.

Also back in the countdown with new material is Austrian star Christina Stürmer as her "Millionen Lichter" enters at #24. It's the ninth top 30 single of the singer, who has been in the top 10 only once with debut "Ich lebe", peak #4.

Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man" returns to the top 30 this week as it climbs to #26 from #37.

"Your Touch" of Blake Lewis (runner-up in American Idol) has also gained in momentum over the last few weeks (it was used in an Internet Explorer commercial) and shoots itself this time to #32 from #66, becoming the first hit of the newcomer.

There're also new peaks for Theophilus London's "Wine & Chocolates" at #33, up from #39, and Nelly's "Hey Porsche" at #35, up from #46.
And the other new entries this week:

#68 Prinz Pi - Glück
#70 Lisa Aberer - I Will Dance
#78 Helene Fischer - Die Biene Maja
#80 Elif - Unter meiner Haut
#99 Justin Bieber ft. Ludacris - All Around The World

The Album Chart

In the album chart Depeche Mode's "Delta Machine" spends a second week at top. "The Mystery Of Time", the sixth studio album of powermetal project Avantasia, debuts this week at #2, matching the peak of "The Wicked Symphony / Angel of Babylon" three years ago. The live album/DVD of Udo Lindenberg and friends "Ich mach mein Ding - Die Show" enters new at #3.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 5.04

Passenger's "Let her go" does not seem to be letting go the first position as it stands there for a third consecutive week, followed by Will.I.Am's "Scream and Shout" and Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors".

The highest new entry can be found at #5, with the honour going to Pink's latest single "Just Give Me a Reason". I've written before that Pink is huge in Germany and it is not strange that the third single from Pink's latest album "The Truth About Love" becomes her 18th top 10 song in the country. Previous singles "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" and "Try" reached #10 and #2, respectively. As long as her collaborator Nate Ruess is concerned, the Fun. frontman has been in the top 10 before with "We Are Young" (peak #4).

A place behind Pink, OneRepublic return to the top ten with "If I Lose Myself", an increase from #11, while Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Can't Hold Us" is up a notch to #7.

Perhaps the performance of top favourite Ricardo Bielecki at the latest edition of DSDS of "Impossible" has triggered the great interest towards James Arthur's own version of the song, which shoots itself to #8 from #72. This is the first appearance of the song in the top 40 and the first time when a UK X Factor winner becomes so huge in Germany with his finale and debut song. Traditionally, the record companies wait for a more "proper" material to promote the winners outside the UK. The original version of the song, performed by Shontelle, never charted in Germany.

Veteran East German band Silly make it this week inside the top 20 as their single "Deine Stärken" moves eight and peaks at #19.

A position behind, Die Toten Hosen bring their third single taken from multi-selling "Ballast Der Republik". "Draußen vor der Tür" follows #1 smash "Tage wie diese" and the #3 peak of "Altes Fieber".

Wax' "Rosanna" is just outside the top 20, this week climbing ten places to peak at #22. It is followed by Hurts' "Miracle", up from #34 to #23 in its fourth week on the hitparade.

Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding's "I Need Your Love" advances two and is this week at #26, while further down the chart the latest celebrity couple Sarah Engels and Pietro Lombardi manage to crack the top 50 with "Dream Team", an increase from #63 to #41. Whether the DSDS finalists from 2011 (he won, she was #2) will manage to have a hit in 2013 is doubtful but we'll see in the next few weeks. This is Sarah and Pietro's second collaboration as "I Miss You" (does someone remember this?) reached #2 in 2011.

It's not so often that Michael Bublé has singles entering the chart but "It's A Beautiful Day"
(this week new at #42), the pilot single from his newest album "To Be Loved", is his seventh top 100 song. Bublé's best performing song is "Let It Snow", peak #35.

Also new in the top 50 is VoXXclub's debut single "Rock mi" at #45, while at #46 Nelly's "Hey Porsche" becomes the 16th top 50 single of the US rapper as a lead artist (up from #62). Previous Nelly offering "Just a Dream" reached #17 way back in 2010.

And the other new entries this week:

#63 Lina Larissa Strahl - Freakin' Out
#70 Seeed - Deine Zeit
#79  Max Herre - Nicht vorbei (bis es vorbei ist)
#85 Roland Kaiser - Egoist
#86  Peter Plate - Wir beide sind Musik
#90 Santiano - Es gibt nur Wasser
#92 Frank Ocean - Lost
#93 Emeli Sande - Clown

The Album Chart

Expectedly, in the album chart Depeche Mode score their ninth! number one record in Germany as "Delta Machine" debuts directly at top. It is followed by Silly's latest album "Kopf an Kopf" at #2, while OneRepublic's "Native" enters at #4. Interesting, it's the best performing album of OneRepublic so far. Also new at #5 is "Old Sock" of Eric Clapton, while "An Acoustic Evening At The Vienna Opera House" of Joe Bonamassa comes in at #10.
