German Chart Comments - Issue Date 21.12

The videos are back

As Rihanna spends her eight week on the top with "Diamonds", it's Pink who brings fresh blood to the top three. Her "Try" rises five positions and peaks at #2 becoming the highest charting single of the US star since "So What" hit the number one slot in 2008. Pink has two other #2 on her account - "Just Like A Pill" and "Get The Party Started".

This week Psy retreats to #3 with his "Gangham Style", while the highest new entry comes in at #4. Despite relatively late, The Script's global hit "Hall Of Fame" finally breaks it in the German charts. It easily becomes their most successful single in the country as the US band has failed to score any hit in Germany so far. Only "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" managed to penetrate the top 50 and stalled at #28 in 2008.

That Rammstein are currently the most famous band worldwide that sings in German is beyond any doubt but the release of their latest single once again shows their popularity at home has not faded. "Mein Herz brennt" is actually a song taken from their 2001 LP "Mutter" but is just now officially released as a single to commemorate the newest Videos compilation of the group. By appearing at #7, it becomes their tenth top ten single.

The next as well as several of the other new entries in the Top 100 come thanks to the casting show The Voice Of Germany. Its finale is still to affect the chart but this week inside the top 50 we have Isabell Schmidt's "Heimweh" at #33, Nick Howard's "Unbreakable" at #39 and Michael Lane's "Angel" at #47. It's actually Nick of the Rea Garvey's team who eventually won the show.

Also new in the top 50 is US pop duo MS MR, whose debut single "Hurricane" enters at #38. At the same time "Castle Of Glass", Linkin Park's follow-up to radio favourite "Burn It Down" (peak #2) and flop "Lost In The  Echo" (one week at #68), has made it inside the top 50 at #43, up from #58.

Swiss DJ Mike Candys, who have been responsible for some of the bigger club tunes in 2011 and 2012, has teamed up with fellow colleague Jack Holiday for his next single. "The Riddle Anthem" can be found at #44. For those young enough not to remember, Italian Gigi D'Agostino had a massive top ten single with "The Riddle" in 2000 (peak #4).

Last Xavier Naidoo and Kool Savas (or Xavas) bring "Wage es zu glauben", their follow up to #2 hit "Schau nicht mehr zurück", at the rather low #49.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 7.12

As Rihanna, Psy and Adele keep the top three unchanged, it's up to Alicia Key's "Girl On Fire" to shake the countdown at its upper end as the song advances seven to #4. This makes the single the third best performing of the US star in Germany next to "Fallin'" (peak #2) and No One (peak #3).

Following the use in a heavily-played TV commercial, Gossip's "Move In The Right Direction" makes a fresh peak at #12, showing once again the longevity the band enjoys in the upper reaches of the German singles chart. Also thanks to the same advert, Laing's "Morgens immer müde" shoots itself from #40 to #16. The song first appeared at #14, before disappearing quickly from the top 100 and re-entering it last week.

There are also new peaks by Icona Pop's "I Like It" at #17 and Lenka's "Everything At Once" at #18, while the biggest new entry can be found at #14. Mrs. Greenbird is a local folk duo, who have won the latest edition of Germany's X Factor and "Shooting Stars And Fairy Tales" is their self-written winning song. Whether Mrs. Greenbird have chart future is hard to tell but having in mind that no-one seems to remember previous X-Factor winners Edita Abdieski and David Pfeffer and the declining ratings of the contest, it seems that their success prospects are not too big.

The next highest new entry comes in the hype of the final instalment of the Twilight saga and belongs to Christina Perri feat. Steve Kazee. "A Thousand Years (Part 2)" is the title song of Breaking Dawn: Part 2 and by entering at #26 becomes the second single of Perri in the German charts after the megahit "Jar of Hearts" (peak #5). The first part of "A Thousand Years" failed to come on the list.

Further down, Max Herre and Cro's "Fühlt sich wie fliegen an" is up two to #27, while Lukas Graham's "Drunk in the Morning" enters the top 30 at #30, up from #39. The Danish band is currently doing heavy promotion in Germany.

At #35 British singer Birdy is enjoying her first ever hit in Germany as "People Help The People" climbs 21 positions. At the same time her first-ever single "Skinny Love" comes in this week at #81.

In their second week wingenfelder:Wingenfelder are up one notch to #36 with "Wenn die Zeit kommt", while Chima's "Ausflug ins Blaue" is up two to #39.

Just in front of Chima enters the latest single of Chris Brown. "Don't Judge Me" is the third single released from his album "Fortune" in Germany after "Turn Up the Music" (peak #34) and "Don't Wake Me Up" (peak #11). It's his eleventh top 50 single in the country.

On the hype of the current edition of The Voice Of Germany, last year's winner Ivy Quainoo is back in the chart with "Who You Are" at #49. This is Ivy's third single so far and comes with the support of local band Stanfour. The guys were last here with "Sail On", peak #52.

And the other new entries this week:

51. Melissa Heiduk - Send Me An Angel
55. Eva Croissant - Du oder ich (oder wir alle)
66. Nicki Minaj - Va Va Voom
67. Gil Ofarim - Iris
81. Birdy - Skinny Love
89. Jenna Hoff - Nothing Else Matters
97. Mrs. Greenbird - Falling Slowly

The Album Chart

Led Zeppelin keep the top in the album chart with "Celebration Day", followed by AC/DC's "Live At River Plate" at #2 and Rihanna's "Unapologetic" at #3. "Girl On Fire", the latest album of Alicia Keys, is new at #6, matching the peak of "As I Am" from 2007, while debut "Songs In A Minor" remains her most successful LP, reaching #2 in 2001.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 30.11

The top three remains unchanged for yet another week with Rihanna, Psy and Adele's hits sticking to positions one to three.

This week the highest new entry can be found at #5, coming from Pink. "Try" is the second single from Pink's latest album and it improves on the #10 peak of "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)". This is Pink's 16th top ten single in Germany, which once again proves what a star in the country the US singer is.

Inside the top ten, there is also a new peak of Seeed's "Augenbling" at #9, up from #11. It is the third top ten hit of the German rap/reggae band.

Further down the top 100, Lenka's moves up three to enter the top 20 at #19.

The second highest new proposal is at #23. "Stark" is the latest single of Unheilig, taken from the winter edition of their "Lichter der Stadt" album. It is the sixth top 30 single of Der Graf and co, while previous release "Wie wir waren" peaked at #32.

There is also a new peak at #24 for "Wild Love" of Rea Garvey, who is now enjoying the attention coming from his current post as a judge at Voice Of Germany.

Max Herre & Cro, who have had great success over the last few months, have teamed up for the next new entry at #29. "Fühlt sich wie fliegen an" follows Max Herre's "Wolke 7" (peak #6) and Cro's "Einmal um die Welt" (currently at #16).

"Wenn die Zeit kommt" is the first ever song of local pop duo Wingenfelder:Wingenfelder to enter the countdown and the single of brothers Kai and Thorsten Wingenfelder is this week at #37.

Also fresh inside the top 50 is David Guetta's follow-up to "She Wolf" (peak #3). "Just One Last Time" is this time a collaboration with Taped Rai and is new at #45.

At #48 there is a re-entry of Joe Cocker's "Fire It Up", which debuted at #50 three weeks ago, while Rihanna & David Guetta's for now album cut "Right Now" is new at #50, coinciding with the release of RiRi's latest LP.

And the other new entries this week:

63. Phil Collins -
In The Air Tonight
66. Eros Ramazzotti - Un angelo disteso al sole
73. Otto Knows - Million Voices
80. Mrs. Greenbird - It Will Never Rain Roses
100. Linkin Park - Castle Of Glass

The Album Chart

Once again all is new at the top of the album chart as legendary band Led Zeppelin registers its second album as #1 with "Celebration Day". The LP comes after the #1 peak of Led Zeppelin II in 1970, and sets a record for a gap between #1 albums of the same artists. Pur's latest "Schein & Sein" enters this week at #2, while the live CD and DVD of Coldplay "Live 2012" joins the countdown at #3. Thus Rihanna's newest "Unapologetic" has to deal with a new entry at #4, just a position ahead of the re-entry of "Live At River Plate" of AC/DC at #5. The latest offers of Joe Cocker "Fire It Up" and Eros Ramazzotti "Noi" are new at #6 and #7, respectively. Last week's winner, Rolling Stones' "GRRR!" falls seven to #8, while the new edition of "Born To Die" of Lana Del Rey can be found at #9.
