German Chart Comments - Issue Date 21.12

The videos are back

As Rihanna spends her eight week on the top with "Diamonds", it's Pink who brings fresh blood to the top three. Her "Try" rises five positions and peaks at #2 becoming the highest charting single of the US star since "So What" hit the number one slot in 2008. Pink has two other #2 on her account - "Just Like A Pill" and "Get The Party Started".

This week Psy retreats to #3 with his "Gangham Style", while the highest new entry comes in at #4. Despite relatively late, The Script's global hit "Hall Of Fame" finally breaks it in the German charts. It easily becomes their most successful single in the country as the US band has failed to score any hit in Germany so far. Only "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" managed to penetrate the top 50 and stalled at #28 in 2008.

That Rammstein are currently the most famous band worldwide that sings in German is beyond any doubt but the release of their latest single once again shows their popularity at home has not faded. "Mein Herz brennt" is actually a song taken from their 2001 LP "Mutter" but is just now officially released as a single to commemorate the newest Videos compilation of the group. By appearing at #7, it becomes their tenth top ten single.

The next as well as several of the other new entries in the Top 100 come thanks to the casting show The Voice Of Germany. Its finale is still to affect the chart but this week inside the top 50 we have Isabell Schmidt's "Heimweh" at #33, Nick Howard's "Unbreakable" at #39 and Michael Lane's "Angel" at #47. It's actually Nick of the Rea Garvey's team who eventually won the show.

Also new in the top 50 is US pop duo MS MR, whose debut single "Hurricane" enters at #38. At the same time "Castle Of Glass", Linkin Park's follow-up to radio favourite "Burn It Down" (peak #2) and flop "Lost In The  Echo" (one week at #68), has made it inside the top 50 at #43, up from #58.

Swiss DJ Mike Candys, who have been responsible for some of the bigger club tunes in 2011 and 2012, has teamed up with fellow colleague Jack Holiday for his next single. "The Riddle Anthem" can be found at #44. For those young enough not to remember, Italian Gigi D'Agostino had a massive top ten single with "The Riddle" in 2000 (peak #4).

Last Xavier Naidoo and Kool Savas (or Xavas) bring "Wage es zu glauben", their follow up to #2 hit "Schau nicht mehr zurück", at the rather low #49.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 7.12

As Rihanna, Psy and Adele keep the top three unchanged, it's up to Alicia Key's "Girl On Fire" to shake the countdown at its upper end as the song advances seven to #4. This makes the single the third best performing of the US star in Germany next to "Fallin'" (peak #2) and No One (peak #3).

Following the use in a heavily-played TV commercial, Gossip's "Move In The Right Direction" makes a fresh peak at #12, showing once again the longevity the band enjoys in the upper reaches of the German singles chart. Also thanks to the same advert, Laing's "Morgens immer müde" shoots itself from #40 to #16. The song first appeared at #14, before disappearing quickly from the top 100 and re-entering it last week.

There are also new peaks by Icona Pop's "I Like It" at #17 and Lenka's "Everything At Once" at #18, while the biggest new entry can be found at #14. Mrs. Greenbird is a local folk duo, who have won the latest edition of Germany's X Factor and "Shooting Stars And Fairy Tales" is their self-written winning song. Whether Mrs. Greenbird have chart future is hard to tell but having in mind that no-one seems to remember previous X-Factor winners Edita Abdieski and David Pfeffer and the declining ratings of the contest, it seems that their success prospects are not too big.

The next highest new entry comes in the hype of the final instalment of the Twilight saga and belongs to Christina Perri feat. Steve Kazee. "A Thousand Years (Part 2)" is the title song of Breaking Dawn: Part 2 and by entering at #26 becomes the second single of Perri in the German charts after the megahit "Jar of Hearts" (peak #5). The first part of "A Thousand Years" failed to come on the list.

Further down, Max Herre and Cro's "Fühlt sich wie fliegen an" is up two to #27, while Lukas Graham's "Drunk in the Morning" enters the top 30 at #30, up from #39. The Danish band is currently doing heavy promotion in Germany.

At #35 British singer Birdy is enjoying her first ever hit in Germany as "People Help The People" climbs 21 positions. At the same time her first-ever single "Skinny Love" comes in this week at #81.

In their second week wingenfelder:Wingenfelder are up one notch to #36 with "Wenn die Zeit kommt", while Chima's "Ausflug ins Blaue" is up two to #39.

Just in front of Chima enters the latest single of Chris Brown. "Don't Judge Me" is the third single released from his album "Fortune" in Germany after "Turn Up the Music" (peak #34) and "Don't Wake Me Up" (peak #11). It's his eleventh top 50 single in the country.

On the hype of the current edition of The Voice Of Germany, last year's winner Ivy Quainoo is back in the chart with "Who You Are" at #49. This is Ivy's third single so far and comes with the support of local band Stanfour. The guys were last here with "Sail On", peak #52.

And the other new entries this week:

51. Melissa Heiduk - Send Me An Angel
55. Eva Croissant - Du oder ich (oder wir alle)
66. Nicki Minaj - Va Va Voom
67. Gil Ofarim - Iris
81. Birdy - Skinny Love
89. Jenna Hoff - Nothing Else Matters
97. Mrs. Greenbird - Falling Slowly

The Album Chart

Led Zeppelin keep the top in the album chart with "Celebration Day", followed by AC/DC's "Live At River Plate" at #2 and Rihanna's "Unapologetic" at #3. "Girl On Fire", the latest album of Alicia Keys, is new at #6, matching the peak of "As I Am" from 2007, while debut "Songs In A Minor" remains her most successful LP, reaching #2 in 2001.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 30.11

The top three remains unchanged for yet another week with Rihanna, Psy and Adele's hits sticking to positions one to three.

This week the highest new entry can be found at #5, coming from Pink. "Try" is the second single from Pink's latest album and it improves on the #10 peak of "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)". This is Pink's 16th top ten single in Germany, which once again proves what a star in the country the US singer is.

Inside the top ten, there is also a new peak of Seeed's "Augenbling" at #9, up from #11. It is the third top ten hit of the German rap/reggae band.

Further down the top 100, Lenka's moves up three to enter the top 20 at #19.

The second highest new proposal is at #23. "Stark" is the latest single of Unheilig, taken from the winter edition of their "Lichter der Stadt" album. It is the sixth top 30 single of Der Graf and co, while previous release "Wie wir waren" peaked at #32.

There is also a new peak at #24 for "Wild Love" of Rea Garvey, who is now enjoying the attention coming from his current post as a judge at Voice Of Germany.

Max Herre & Cro, who have had great success over the last few months, have teamed up for the next new entry at #29. "Fühlt sich wie fliegen an" follows Max Herre's "Wolke 7" (peak #6) and Cro's "Einmal um die Welt" (currently at #16).

"Wenn die Zeit kommt" is the first ever song of local pop duo Wingenfelder:Wingenfelder to enter the countdown and the single of brothers Kai and Thorsten Wingenfelder is this week at #37.

Also fresh inside the top 50 is David Guetta's follow-up to "She Wolf" (peak #3). "Just One Last Time" is this time a collaboration with Taped Rai and is new at #45.

At #48 there is a re-entry of Joe Cocker's "Fire It Up", which debuted at #50 three weeks ago, while Rihanna & David Guetta's for now album cut "Right Now" is new at #50, coinciding with the release of RiRi's latest LP.

And the other new entries this week:

63. Phil Collins -
In The Air Tonight
66. Eros Ramazzotti - Un angelo disteso al sole
73. Otto Knows - Million Voices
80. Mrs. Greenbird - It Will Never Rain Roses
100. Linkin Park - Castle Of Glass

The Album Chart

Once again all is new at the top of the album chart as legendary band Led Zeppelin registers its second album as #1 with "Celebration Day". The LP comes after the #1 peak of Led Zeppelin II in 1970, and sets a record for a gap between #1 albums of the same artists. Pur's latest "Schein & Sein" enters this week at #2, while the live CD and DVD of Coldplay "Live 2012" joins the countdown at #3. Thus Rihanna's newest "Unapologetic" has to deal with a new entry at #4, just a position ahead of the re-entry of "Live At River Plate" of AC/DC at #5. The latest offers of Joe Cocker "Fire It Up" and Eros Ramazzotti "Noi" are new at #6 and #7, respectively. Last week's winner, Rolling Stones' "GRRR!" falls seven to #8, while the new edition of "Born To Die" of Lana Del Rey can be found at #9.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 23.11

(There'll be no videos for now)

This week the top three remains intact as Rihanna's "Diamonds", Psy's "Gangnam Style" and Adele's "Skyfall" occupy the positions one to three.

At #4 Klangkarussell's "Sonnentanz" mark a new peak, up a notch, while "Read All About It (Part III)" of Emeli Sande finally makes it in the top ten, up from #14 to #7. It is thus the first single of Emeli inside the top ten and also turns into one of the biggest songs in Germany not officially released as a single.

Alicia Keys' "Girl on Fire" is also on the rise, and this time peaks at #9, up from #11, becoming the fifth top ten single of the US R&B diva.

Just outside the top ten, Seeed's "Augenbling" is benefiting from a fresh video and moves up to #11 from #18.

The highest new entry belongs to Icona Pop at #20. "I Love It" is the first single of the Swedish star in the German charts and celebrates the overall success of Swedish acts lately, next to that of Lykke Li, Loreen and Lenka.

Following a cover performance on a TV casting show, Sting's classic "Desert Rose" soars this week to #21 from #58. First time around the song reached #7 in 2000.

It's also a new peak for Rea Garvey's "Wild Love" at #32 (up from #34) and Taio Cruz' "Fast Car" at #39 (up from #52). Between them we can find the second new entry coming from local superstars Stefan Raab and Die Höhner. Apart from his TV career, Stefan Raab has had a strong chart career, including several #1s, while the legendary band from Cologne was last in the countdown with "6 bis 8 Stunden Schlaf" from 2011 . "Ävver et Hätz bliev he in Kölle" enters at #38.

Further down the chart, in its second week on the list local newcomer Chima registers his second top 50 single as "Ausflug ins Blaue" soars to #40 from #79. Debut single "Morgen" peaked at #29 several months ago.

Also new inside the first 50 is Ola's "I'm In Love", which moves up to #45 from #70. Ola, another Swedish singer, has been huge in his home country over the past six years, while this is his first foray in Germany.

And last but not least we should not omit that Lana Del Rey scores her fifth top 50 single in Germany as "Ride" enters at #44. As the song is completely new, it however still deserves to be among her bigger hits.

And the other new entries this week:

63. Mrs. Greenbird - Blitzkrieg Bob
67. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
80. Zedd feat. Matthew Koma - Spectrum
82. Birdy - People Help The People
83. R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts
85. Foo Fighters - Best Of You
89. One Direction - Little Things
92. Mrs. Greenbird - Frozen
97. A$AP Rocky feat. Drake, 2 Chainz & Kendrick Lamar - Fuckin' Problems

The Album Chart

In the LP chart The Rolling Stones have their eighth number one album with the compilation "Grrr!", while One Direction take the runner-up slot with sophomore effort "Take Me Home". The boys debut album peaked at #16. Thus, Robbie Williams retreats to #3, while Green Day's second album of the year "Dos" comes in at #4. Also new directly in the top ten are Moses Pelham's "Geteiltes Leid 3" at #7 and Soundgarden's "King Animal" at #10.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 9.11

Rihanna stays for a second week on top with her "Diamonds", while Psy's former number one "Gangnam Style" sticks to the runner-up slot. Another ex-chart topper, Adele's "Skyfall" moves up one to #3.
Video - Rihanna
Video - Psy
Video - Adele

It may be out of season, but that doesn't stop Klangkarussell's "Sonnentanz" to advance further and this week to peak at #5, up from #9. At the same time, Flo Rida has his sixth top ten single with "I Cry", up one to #10. Thus, all official singles of Flo Rida's "Wild Ones" album have reached the first ten in Germany.
Video - Klangkarussell
Video - Flo Rida

Also moving in the right direction this week are Bruno Mars' "Locked Out Of Heaven", up two to #12, Silbermond's "Ja", up five to #13, and Alicia Keys' "Girl on Fire", up 12 to #15. It's Alicia's fifth top 20 single in the country. Emeli Sandé's "Read All About It (Part III)" is also on the rise, up four to #17, while Cro's "Einmal um die Welt" enters the first 20 at #20, up by 10 notches.
Video - Bruno Mars

Live - Emeli Sande

The highest new entry comes from rock veterans Die Ärzte. "Ist das noch Punkrock?" is the third single taken from the guys' "Auch" album and is the third to enter the top 20 after "M&F" peaked at #13.
Video

The rise of Usher's "Numb" continues for yet another week as the single advances to #30 from #48.
Three positions below the US star enters the second new song of the week. Veteran German band Pur brings yet another single in the countdown as "Der bestmögliche Versuch" debuts at #33. The first single of Pur on record in the charts is 1991's "Lena", while last they were here with 2009's "Irgendwo" (peak #26).
Video - Usher
Pur - Audio

Australian singer Lenka already had a minor hit in 2009 with "The Show" (peak #23), which I've totally forgotten, and now is back with the new "Everything At Once" at #39. The song benefits of course from its inclusion in the latest Microsoft adverts.
Audio

At #40 we have a re-entry and a new peak position of Jessie J's "Nobody's Perfect", while the girl power continues at #41 with the follow-up of Loreen's summer smash "Euphoria". It's very rare to see any of the Eurovision winners managing to score more than one top 50 hits, so the appearance of "My Heart Is Refusing Me" may be considered of some sort of success.
Video - Jessie J
Audio - Loreen

Moses Pelham may be a huge name in the German music industry but he has had only two top 50 singles so far ("Twilight Zone" peak #27 from 1989 and "Hartreim Saga" peak #44 from 1998). This now changes as "Für die Ewigkeit" enters at #45.
Video

Finally, it's good to see such legends as Joe Cocker still managing to have chart success. Thus, "Fire It Up" enters at #50. Cocker's first single in the Hitparade was the 1968 classic "With a Little Help from My Friends", while he was last in the list in 2007 with "Hymn for My Soul". Curiously though Joe Cocker's last single to manage to peak inside the top 50 was 1994's "The Simple Things" (peak #46).
Video

And the other new entries this week:

52. Nena - Das ist nicht alles
Live
55. Willy Moon - Yeah Yeah
Video
77. Ola - I'm In Love
Video
89. Kelly Clarkson - Catch My Breath

The Album Chart

In the album chart, the second MTV Unplugged of Die Fantastischen Vier expectedly enters at #1. Curiously though the compilation has not produced any hit singles, which the last MTV Unpluggeds with German acts managed to do splendidly. The first Unplugged LP of Die Fantas peaked at #6 in 2000. Also new in the top ten are "Psychedelic Pill" of Neil Young & Crazy Horse at #4, "Red" of Taylor Swift at #5 and "Afterglow" of rock band Black Country Communion at #9.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 2.11

It was expected over the last few weeks and now becomes a fact, Rihanna has scored her fourth number one in Germany with "Diamonds" (up from #2). The single thus joins the elite club of RiRi's #1s which also includes "Umbrella", "Don't Stop The Music" and "We Found Love". And we should also add to the list her guest appearance on Eminem's "Love The Way You Lie"

Thus Psy's "Gangnam Style" slides this week to #2, while former #1 "Lila Wolken" of Marteria is up a notch to #3.

After its subdued debut, "Ja", the newest single of Silbermond, has finally reached the top 20 (up to #18 from #26). The third single from the band's "Himmel auf" album significantly outperforms previous one "FdsmH (Für dich schlägt mein Herz)" (peak #53) but still has a long path to reach the #5 peak of "Himmel auf".

The highest new entry comes in the form of the comeback single of Ke$ha. "Die Young" enters at #20, turning into the fourth song of the US star to register a top 20 position. She had a number one single with "Tik Tok" in 2009.

Further down the countdown, "Einmal um die Welt", the third official single of 2012's sensation Cro shoots itself from #74 to #30. Also on the rise is Taio Cruz' latest "Fast Car", which advances to #41 from #55 and is on its way to prove how big is Cruz in Germany. His previous "World in Our Hands" was one of the hits of the summer and peaked at #4. At the same time, "Numb", Usher's follow-up to hit single "Scream" (peak #17), rises 21 positions and enters the top 50 at #48. Curiously all singles with Usher as a lead singer in Germany have reached the top 50 with the exception of "U-Turn", which fell close at #51.

Monday

Austrian circuit board producer AT&S raised its sales by 5% to 255m euro in the first half of its fiscal year. Net profit, however, collapsed by 85% to 2.08m euro. Ams, former austriamicrosystems, announced a 27% increase in sales to 103.3m euro in the third quarter of 2012. EBIT grew 96% to 25.5m euro. The company benefited from increasing demand for smartphone and tablet PC applications. The firm projects 40% increase in sales for the full year. Ams also revealed the planned takeover of IDS, a RFID design house.

Tuesday

Despite the announced on Monday fall in earnings, circuit board maker AT&S does not see any reason for a profit warning for full 2012/13, CFO Thomas Obendrauf said at a news conference. According to him, the company can still meet its targets.

After the initial hype has disappeared, Adele's "Skyfall" slips this week to #7, which clears the way for Psy's "Gangnam Style" to reclaim the crown for a second week in total. Rihanna's "Diamonds" is also up, this time to #2 from #6, while Robbie Williams' "Candy" enters the top three in its second week after debuting at #4.

Outside the top 10, Flo Rida is steadily bringing his latest single "I Cry" towards the upper reaches of the countdown. The single rises to #12 from #20. Maroon 5's "One More Night" is also continuing its climb, up to #17 from #22.

The highest new entry can be found at #19 coming from Calvin Harris and his collaboration with Florence Welch. The stakes of the two performers have risen considerable lately, so it is no surprising that "Sweet Nothing" becomes easily the highest charting single of both of them in Germany (Calvin Harris' collaboration with Rihanna not counted). Harris' previous song with Example did not enter the chart, while "Let's Go" with Ne-Yo peaked at #59. "Spectrum (Say My Name)", also a team-up of Harris and Florence, reached #54 in Germany.

Further down there are new peaks by Bruno Mars' "Locked Out Of Heaven", up seven to #24, Silbermond's "Ja", up 12 places to #26 and Alicia Keys' "Girl On Fire", up seven to #32.
