Bulgarian Boxoffice Update - Weekend 23-25 September

Killing the last traces of any good movie taste
Expect soon a new special feature - NO WHAT'S YOUR NUMBER, DOLPHIN'S TALE & 30 MINUTES OR LESS IN BULGARIA!!!

Shockingly or not, the crime against cinema that is Spy Kids 4 has taken the crown in the Bulgarian boxoffice in the past weekend with some BGN 50,033. The sum was of course boosted by the 4D premium but it would be interesting to see how many people older than 7 years of age did not regret spending their money on this Robert Rodriguez shocker. The taking of the number one position also marks the first time in a very long period when we had an independent US movie standing there.

At the same time The Smurfs 3D inches up 4% and with a total of BGN 887,477 rises to the runner-up slot.

The next new entry (we had three new releases - all shining with quality) arrives at #3. Abduction, the Taylor Lautner movie, aka the film with maybe the worst script of the year, collects BGN 37,857 for the period between Friday and Sunday - a decent sum for a payment of ransom, that is, if Taylor was actually abducted, but I won't spoil for you the joy from watching Jacob in action.

Despite that last weekend's champion Johnny English Reborn crashes to #4, it makes it with dignity as the film slips by mere 32% and boasts BGN 158,298 on its account so far. It would definitely be a respectable cash cow in Bulgaria.

Final Destination 5 also shows a good hold and eases just 38% to #5. The final (probably) instalment of the horror genre has collected BGN 118,146 so far.

The last new entry for the week finds its place at #6. I Don't Know How She Does It manages to earn BGN 19,255 for the weekend or BGN 33,988 including previews - not a bad result for a movie with a considerably weak potential.

The results of Drive halve compared to its previous weekend performance but with BGN 61,623 so far, the movie could hardly be considered a big disappointment.

The eight position is occupied by Conan The Barbarian, with a decrease of only 29% and BGN 324,405 total result. At #9 we can find Horrible Bosses with the healthy BGN 304,539 so far and a fall of 51%, while at #10 the poor performance of Green Lantern continues with BGN 103,914 and a decrease of 36%.

Three movies leave the top ten this weekend. Colombiana is at #11 with the rather good BGN 95,703 so far and still counting. Fingers crossed that Universal will be happy with the result of The Change Up, which though a late edition to the release schedule has made BGN 120,759. The same could not be said for Sony and their turkey Zookeeper, which has the miserable BGN 61,156 as a total boxoffice result.

Compared to my last week's projections, Spy Kids 4 came somewhat higher than my BGN 40,000 expectation, Abduction also performed slightly better than my BGN 25,000 forecast, while I Don't Know How She Does It reached my BGN 30,000 target, including previews.

Next weekend's projections:

Crazy Stupid Love - 40,000, including previews
Killer Elite - 55,000, including previews
Moomins and the Comet Chase - 7,000
On a limited release - Pina & Angele et Tony

In Bulgarian Cinemas from September 23

Деца шпиони 4 / Spy Kids 4 - It's tough to find anything worthy in the first three Spy Kids films, but somehow there was some charm infused in them. This time around, the original spy kids have grown up (unfortunately only in age and not in acting capabilities), while we have a new pair of spy wanna-bes replacing them. It's not surprising to say that the plot of the fourth part is so hallow, incoherent and honestly stupid, that compared to it even a Johnny English movie could be taken as a classic. Moreover, this time the acting is not only eye-poppingly bad but is further undermined by the Bulgarian voice cast. Guys and girls, I know that you're from the "greatest" acting school in Sofia, but next time around try harder to earn your check, or best - give way to the more skilful actors out there. But let's get back to the film in question. I've always wandered how a director such as Robert Rodriguez could actually put his name behind an excuse of a film like this one and thus to make me look on favourites like Machete and Sin City with a different eye. Anyway, he did it, and was even lazy enough to make the gadgets of the spies awfully boring. And boy, an oil pissing, metal balls sh**ting dog is just wrong... Oh, if you wanna try the promised 4D effect, just go to a cosmetics store or to the toilet, it's the same. Please, keep your children safe at home with a nice Disney or Pixar DVD... (Forum Film) *

Отвлечен / Abduction - I tried to be as less prejudiced as possible when going to the screening of Abduction, which has been declared "guilty" by many movie "specialists" for just being a vehicle for Twilight star Taylor Lautner. Unfortunately though, the moment the plot starts rolling, the film collapses hit by lazy scripting, wooden performances and worst - the lack of any tension. And the fact that it avoids too obviously the R-rating is not cool either. For many it would be surprising to find that Taylor Lautner is not the worst thing in the movie. Yes, he is not the best young actor out there, but at least shows some good action skills. The same could not be said for his girlfriend (or sort of) Lily, daughter of Phil, Collins. Don't know what her problem is - is she helpless in the acting career or just felt embarrassed to be around Jacob (sorry, Taylor), but her presence on the screen in the entire movie is just awful. The main problem of the film however is not the acting but the ridiculous plot. The premise was good, at least on paper it sounds okay, but the big revelation is so stupid and lazily conceived that you'll find more intrigue in Johnny English Reborn (yes, I used that movie reference twice today). Perhaps the movie writers should find another job, but such a script should have never seen the green light. On the plus side, the film has several well paced action scenes and boasts Sigourney Weaver in a supporting role, but I doubt that this would get Abduction (even the name of the movie feels not right) out of the Razzie Awards territory. (Forum Film) * 1/2

Скъпа, няма не мога / I Don't Know How She Does It - I really doubt that, as the character of Sarah Jessica Parker, I will have the time and most crucially the nerves to sit through this rom-com schlock. (Tandem)

German chart comments - Issue date - 23.09.2011

It's a fourth week for Marlon Roudette and his "New Age" at the summit of the German singles chart, while Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger" stands steady at #2.

The top three is rounded up by the highest new entry of the week, belonging to German duo Rosenstolz. Anna and Peter's previous album spawned their only number one - "Gib mir Sonne", as well as two other top ten singles. By debuting at #3 the magnificent "Wir sind am Leben" becomes their third top three single and their 11th top ten song. A well-deserved success for one of the best German acts out there.

The second new entry can be found just outside the top 10, coming from UK singer/rapper Example. After storming the UK charts for the last year and a half, Example's first UK #1 "Changed The Way You Kiss Me" makes more than spectacular entry at #11 in Germany.

Example, or Elliot John Gleave as known to his friends, is followed in the countdown by what is German legend Udo Lindenberg. The singer, whose career enters a fifth decade, has just recorded an Unplugged session for MTV and the single to promote it "Ein Herz kann man nicht reparieren" arrives at #12. The original version of the song reached #29 when it was first released twenty years ago. The new recording features also Inga Humpe, who is part of the 2raumwohnung project (their "36 Grad" hit even has a brand new 2011 version), and also happens to be a sister of Ich + Ich's Annette...

Another German new entry docks in at #13. Glasperlenspiel is a new band, whose first single "Echt" will present the Baden-Württemberg state at the forthcoming Bundesvision contest on 29 September (20.15 CET on Pro7).

Somewhat surprisingly one of the new hits comes from British band Snow Patrol, whose "Called Out In The Dark" shoots itself directly at #15. It thus matches the #15 peak of "Shut Your Eyes", while "Chasing Cars" is the group's only top ten single in the country. I personally didn't expect the guys to be back in the top 20 in Germany, especially in times when the rock music is more typical for the upper reaches of the LP charts.

At #17 Rea Garvey, most famous as the vocalist of German group Reamonn, releases his first proper solo single and by the looks of it with a considerable success. Apart from his credits for "Be Angled", a Jam & Spoon single that reached #16 in 2001, Rea has never been so high in the top 100 without the support of Reamonn. Oh, and timely, this autumn he will also act as a coach for the "The Voice of Germany", good work man...
Video

And the remaining new entries with videos and some info:

40. James Blunt - I'll be Your Man - Believe it or not, all released singles of James Blunt have entered the top 50 in Germany.
Video
48. Jessie J - Nobody's Perfect - A great song but obviously not a worthy successor to the top three peak of "Price Tag".
Video
75. Bosse feat. Anna Loos - Frankfurt Oder - A third single for the German singer in the top 100, and having in mind the success of guys such as Tim Bendzko and Andreas Bourani, it's a shame that he is not charting higher...
Video
81. Steve Murano - Passion (Twenty Eleven) - The original version was released in 2003 and reached #76 back then.
Video
84. Jamatami - Ma-Ya-Hi - The next TV produced pop band makes its appearance but as the numbers show doesn't need our attention at all. Oh, and it's a cover of O-Zone....
Video - Short
93. The Kooks - Junk Of The Heart (Happy) - A third single for the British group to ever stir the German charts.

The Album Chart

In the album chart we have something which is not happening very often - a number two album to rise and peak at #1. However, after the megasucess of almost every song from the LP, David Guetta's "Nothing But The Beat" makes it and is this week's German best selling album. Red Hot Chili Peppers slip to two, while "A Dramatic Turn Of Events", the latest from Dream Theater, fails to crown the chart as many expected and arrives at #3.

The other new entries in the top 10:

6 The Kooks - Junk Of The Heart
7 Katzenjammer - A Kiss Before You Go
8 Wynton Marsalis & Eric Clapton - Play The Blues - Live From Jazz At Lincoln Center
10 Chris Rea - Santo Spirito Blues

Bulgarian Boxoffice Update - Weekend 16-18 September

He didn't take the success easily
Finally, after a full month on the top, The Smurfs has given up the crown, freeing the way for Johnny English Reborn to claim the number one slot. The latest adventures of Rowan Atkinson collected BGN 55,395 over the weekend - a respectable result having in mind that the film is not screened in the Cinema City chain. In comparison, the first part of the franchise made around BGN 110,000 in its entire run in Bulgaria but eight years ago. In view of the popularity of Mr. Bean in the country, we can expect the comedy to have good legs in the weeks to come.

The second new entry of the week comes in at #2. Final Destination 5 draws BGN 37,198 for the weekend, which, considering the genre, is not bad at all. However, taking into account the number of screens, the 3D premium and the IMAX showings, the horror movie may be seen as a disappointment. The previous part ended its Bulgarian run with above BGN 400,000 - a figure which would be out of reach for the new instalment.

Thus The Smurfs falls to #3 with a decrease of just 30% and the excellent BGN 808,366 so far.

Proving that even arthouse action movies can find a good number of viewers in Bulgaria, Drive debuts at #4 with BGN 22,737. Yes, many would say this a poor result, but consider this - Johnny English is back on the big screen, the film is not in 3D, Ryan Gosling is not a star and nobody cares who won awards in Cannes... So actually we should be grateful that the title has even crossed the 20,000 line.

Conan The Barbarian didn't save any face and continued to show signs of fading quickly away by falling 52% this weekend. The movie has attracted BGN 301,111 so far.

At #6 Horrible Bosses slows down with 38% and BGN 281,764 so far. Colombiana is at #7, with a decrease of 55% and the good total result of BGN 82,748, while at #8 Green Lantern retains its disappointing performance with BGN 91,703 so far and a slump of 66%.

The top ten is wrapped up by Zookeper and BGN 53,948 so far, a decrease of a massive 71%, and The Change-Up with BGN 111,638 and a fall of 51%.

This weekend Shark Night 3D says goodbye to the top ten after only three weeks in there. The horror teen movie still can boast BGN 82,439 so far, which is more than great for an unpretentious independent title. Nutcracker in 3D didn't enjoy any good word-of-mouth, so unsurprisingly plummets with 62% to #12, showing a total result of dismal BGN 15,082. The Ford-Craig show has also come to an end as Cowboys and Aliens falls to #16, with an underwhelming boxoffice of BGN 215,297.

Compared to my projections, both Johnny English Reborn and Final Destination 5 came significantly (and amusingly) close to my forecasts of BGN 65,000 and BGN 35,000, respectively. At the same time Drive surpassed my expectation of BGN 15,000 with around 50%.

Next weekend's projections:

Spy Kids 4 - BGN 40,000
Abduction - BGN 25,000
I Don't Know How She Does It - BGN 30,000, including previews

(1 BGN is equal to 0.51 euros or 0.74 dollars)

The new playlist comes packed with the latest from Joe Jonas, Avril Lavigne, Sean Paul, LMFAO, Example, Cascada, Amy Winehouse as well as several quite interesting German songs...

German chart comments - Issue date - 16.09.2011

It's a third week in a row for Marlon Roudette on top of the singles chart in Germany, though the competition from Maroon 5's global smash "Moves Like Jagger" is intensifying and the latter moves up to #2 this week. Whether it will be the next number one or like in the UK the song will be destined to be a constant runner-up only the next weeks will tell.

The interest in Sak Noel's " Loca People (What The F**k!)" is also growing and the dance hit advances to #4 this time around. Top three next?

The highest new entry has been present in the download charts for a while now and has been finally allowed to chart in the official top 100 at #9. It belongs to Sean Paul, who has been absent from the chart since his "Hold My Hand" burned at #60 two years ago. For his new single the star has teamed up with UK newcomer Alexis Jordan (her own "Happiness" reached only #57 in Germany) and thus "Got 2 Luv U" sees him return to form. The single becomes Paul's fourth top ten song in Germany next to "Get Busy" (peak #3), "Baby Boy (#4) and "We Be Burnin’" (#5). (Now "Got 2 Luv U" should only reach #6 to keep this peculiar trend going on).

Further down the top 20, David Guetta's Usher collaboration "Without You" reaches #10 and becomes the n-th top ten single of the uberproducer, while Natalia Kills' "Free" reaches a new peak at #17.

New singles can be found at #21 and at #26. First Lena Meyer-Landrut returns to the countdown after the #2 peak of "Taken by a Stranger". "What A Man", which if you ask me is her least appealing single, is taken from the soundtrack of the German hit movie of the same name. The film is already "responsible" for the number one single for the past three weeks.  "What A Man" is most famous with its version by Salt' N Pepa from 1993, which reached #39 in Germany (by the way, the peak position of the song means that nowadays it would have never been played on Viva for more than two or three weeks - oh, how things change!). Five positions behind Lena, we can find a far more inspired song coming from Bad Meets Evil, aka the group with the Eminem participation. "Lighters" song marks the first appearance of Bad Meets Evil in this chart and kudos also should go to the man of the moment Bruno Mars, who provides the vocals.

Following the #2 peak of her duet with (now boyfriend, the good PR always work) Pietro Lombardi, Sarah Engels has entered the period when she should test the chart waters on her own. Thus "Only For You" enters this week at #33 and we can put money on the fact that it's gonna be out in a week or two.

The German rap scene continues to show some signs of being alive and this week Fler has brought his latest single at the respectable #38. "Spiegelbild" is the first single from the rapper's new album "Im Bus ganz hinten".

And the remaining new entries with videos and some info:

#63 Luxuslärm - Atemlos - a sixth single of the German group in the top 100 and the sixth to miss the top 50.
Video
#64 Eko Fresh feat. Nino de Angelo - Jenseits von Eden - a brave move for the once famous rapper to make a cover of the famous German number one single from the 80s. Eko Fresh has even invited original singer Nino de Angelo to appear in the song, but with no great success.
#76 Herbert Grönemeyer - Zu dir - An improvement from the great "Fernweh" (peak #93), the third single taken from Herbert's newest (and quite successful) LP however still charts disappointingly.
#80 Boy - Little Numbers - It takes a lot of courage to name your music project just Boy, and especially when there are not any boys in it. But anyway, here come the girls, with their first entry in the top 100.
Video
#93 DJ Antoine feat. The Beat Shakers - Ma Cherie - I don't think that a top hit such as "Welcome to St. Tropez" should be followed in this manner...

The Album Chart

Despite that RHCP and David Guetta keep the first two positions for two weeks, a surprising influx of new names can be seen in the top twenty. So take a deep breath, here come the new entries -

#3 Saltatio Mortis - Sturm aufs Paradies
#5 Eko Fresh - Ekrem
#6 Marlon Roudette - Matter Fixed
#9 F.R.- Ganz normaler Wahnsinn
#13 Hubert von Goisern - Entwederundoder
#14 Boy - Mutual Friends
#16 Melanie C - The Sea

If you didn't recognize many of them, don't worry, you are not the only one.

In Bulgarian Cinemas from September 16

Джони Инглиш се завръща / Johnny English Reborn - Following the awfulness that was the first instalment of Johnny English in 2003, it is somehow surprising to see the makers revisiting the adventures of the infamous spy again. It is, however, more surprising that this time the movie is far superior, which is not saying much but still Johnny English 2 is not a complete waste of time and celluloid. If you are a fan of Rowan Atkinson (and why shouldn't you be), the film has a lot to offer. One chasing scene is incredibly inventive, while the linguistic knowledge of the former Mr. Bean may choke you with laughter. In addition, the supporting cast is relatively okay, offering the likes of Gillian Anderson (underused but still solid) and Rosamund Pike (a throwback to James Bond, I guess). The plot is of course as ridiculous as only an Atkinson full-length movie could be, though, as in the first firm and the Mr. Bean adventures on the big screen, Johnny English Reborn once again misses the magic that has made, let's say, the Austin Powers adventures stick forever in the mind. In other words, it has two or three great moments, but at the end, you'll just wish to re-watch the shorter telly adventures of the comedian. (Forum Film) ***

Bulgarian Boxoffice Update - Weekend 9-11 September

He has just seen the BG Boxoffice
Once again, any last week comparisons will be useless as we have a three-day weekend compared to a six-day one. So, unsurprisingly, the blue extravaganza called The Smurfs ranks for a fourth weekend on the top. With a total of 702,815 so far, the movie will more probably end its entire run crossing the 1m barrier.

The second spot continues to be occupied by Conan The Barbarian, with the far less result of 260,915 so far, while the first new entry comes in at #3. As stupid as it is, The Zookeper manages to bring to its cage a total of 30,824 including previews, which (fingers crossed) is a sign that this excuse for a movie will bomb soon. And, the fact that it's not dubbed in Bulgarian doesn't help either.

At #4 Horrible Bosses continues its successful run with a total of 249,771, while at #5 Green Hornet shows the depressing 68,293 so far, which should be considered as a disappointment by all involved in its making and distribution.

Further down the chart, Colombiana shows healthy 58,792 so far, followed by the surprisingly good 56,836 for Shak Night 3D.

Even the presence of its own director in Bulgaria couldn't prevent the disastrous results of The Nutcracker in 3D. The movie, whose performance was burdened by its timing in the hot September, the lack of a dubbed version and the few screenings, lands at #9 with the shameful 6,405. Given its qualities, though, even this result can be considered too much...

The top ten is rounded up by Cowboys and Aliens and a total of 207,579 so far.

The first ten are left this week by the last instalment of Harry Potter. The movie has earned 794,523, which is good but nowhere near the record-breaking results worldwide. Having in mind it lacks the ingredients that drive the Bulgarian audience mad, i.e. awfully dubbed CGI kids-friendly movies, pirates or Vin Diesel, we should all be happy for Harry and his pals. And, not having in mind inflation and the 3D boost, it's the best result of a Harry Potter movie in the country.

The Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes also says farewell to the top ten, with the good, though unspectacular, 255,603.

Compared to my last week projections, The Zookeper came somewhat close to my 40,000 expaction, while the results of The Nutcracker in 3D met exactly 50% of my 12,000 forecast.

Next weekend's forecasts:

Johnny English Reborn - 65,000
Drive - 15,000
Final Destination 5 - 35,000

(the used currency is Bulgarian lev, 1 lev is equal to 0.51 euros or 0.74 dollars)

Only the latest music videos - 12.09

The latest playlist with the latest videos comes with several interesting live recordings plus one or two great German songs. Enjoy!

German chart comments - Issue date - 09.09.2011

It's a second week on the top of the German charts for Marlon Roudette's "New Age", with all the positions from one to four remaining intact. At #5, a climb from #9 of Sak Noel's summer anthem " Loca People (What The F***k!)", while the highest new entry can be found at #11. Thus, Mike Candys & Evelyn's "One Night In Ibiza" arrives fresh in the countdown, becoming, next to "Danza Kuduro", "Welcome To St. Tropez" and many others, yet another dance hit in Germany this summer.

The influx of David Guetta's songs is obligatory now, so no surprises that the just released album of the French star (the LP debuts at #2) has sparkled another four top 100 songs:

#12 David Guetta Feat. Usher - Without You
#35 David Guetta - Turn Me On (Feat. Nicki Minaj)
#43 David Guetta feat. Akon - Crank It Up
#72 David Guetta feat. Chris Brown - I Can Only Imagine

Further down the chart, at #20 Red Hot Chili Peppers make a rare appearance in the top 20 as "The Adventures of Rain Dance" soars 14 positions. The songs becomes only the fourth single of the band to ever reach the top 20 in Germany.

At #22, in her 26th week in the top 100, French singer ZAZ enjoys an unexpected wind as her "Je Veux" flies from #38 to make a new, albeit belated, peak.

In the top 50 another new entry can be found at #41 where "Champagne Showers", LMFAO's collaboration with Natalia Kills, stumbles to follow the number one smash "Party Rock Anthem" with any dignity. Perhaps we have another one-hit wonder?

The last new entry in the top 50 belongs to Melanie C, whose "Think About It" comes new at #48 and several months after the #38 peak of "Rock Me".

And the remaining new entries with videos:

#62 Katzenjammer -  I Will Dance - First top 100 single of the Norwegian band.
#77 Fabian Buch - Turn Off The Lights - the fourth single of the German singer to enter the top 100, and still no top 50 hit for him.

The Album Chart

Apart from David Guetta at #2, Red Hot Chili Peppers debut with a splash at #1 with their tenth album "I'm With You", which is the third consecutive number one of the band. We have new entries also at #3 by Edguy's "Age Of The Joker", at #4 Thees Uhlmann's album of the same name and at #6 Klee's "Aus Lauter Liebe".

Градът / The Town - Ben Affleck in his best form, both as director & actor. ****

In Bulgarian Cinemas from September 9

(The return of the full movie reviews doesn't bode well for the autumn movie season, and Spy Kids 4 is just around the corner...)

Опашати сватовници / Zookeper - In the summer of the R-rated comedy, the arrival of a children-targeted slapstick & talking animals extravaganza such as Zookeeper was never going to work. And it doesn't. While Paul Blart: Mall Cop two years ago was a surprising hit, it didn't deserve its success and, let's face it, Kevin James has nothing special around him to justify being the lead in any major Hollywood movie. Yes, he is likeable, but when in Zookeeper the animals are out of shot, the film becomes unbearable. It's not that when the furry guys and girls are on screen helps much, but at least you can enjoy some steady voice cast, including Cher, Nick Nolte and Adam Sandler. That, if you manage to not listen to ones of stupidest lines ever to come on celluloid and just enjoy the sound of the star voices. The script is so predictable and lazily written, that at the end it's extremely awful. And if you wonder, yes, Kevin will get the girl. This is a movie, which should have never been released from its cage, while the half rating is for the animals only... (Alexandra) *1/2

Лешникотрошачката 3D / The Nutcracker in 3D - It's a hard task to surpass the stupidity of a turkey such as Zookeeper but The Nutcracker in 3D excels in it. Coming after solely negative reviews and viewers' reactions across the pond, legendary Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky has failed big time with his take on the Tchaikovsky's ballet. And on the top of it, he has decided to come to Bulgaria in the wake of The Nutcracker premiere... Perhaps someone would dare to ask him (don't worry there are not such brave journalists in BG) to elaborate on the wooden performances, the horrible accents and wigs (Nathan Lane), the horrendous overacting (John Turturro), the flat lines, the plot holes,  the misjudged dance numbers, the cheesy and ugly effects. As if the Russian master has tried to create a direct-to-video title for the US audience, forgetting that even the Americans are not so stupid to give their money to watch such a crime against a classic (and to pay extra for the 3D). And he has managed to make even Vienna (yeah, I know it's actually Budapest) looks dull, for which he deserves a credit. (A+) *

Bulgarian Boxoffice Update - Weekend 2-6 September

Green is definitely not the new blue
Any comparisons this time would be conceiving as we have a long weekend due to a public holiday and therefore the given boxoffice results concern the period between Friday and Tuesday. Of course, the results are compared with the Friday-Sunday period from the previous weekend as no one feels obliged to give more detailed and actually real statistics. Anyway, looking at the chart, unsurprisingly The Smurfs keep their top position for a third time and will do it again next weekend as there would be no actual competition. The movie has already collected the enormous 621,516, which is a flying result for just an okay film.

Enjoying a late change in the rating (the movie's R-rating was overturned for reasons unknown during the last week), Conan The Barbarian is stable at #2 and has 221,815 on its account so far. Perhaps, after all, the Bulgarian audience will follow its usual path with such action titles.

The first new entry comes in at #3. Green Lantern has underperformed around the world and in comparison to the other new entries here, its results in Bulgaria are for now underwhelming too. The movie collects 44,147 for the holiday, which is below Captain America's 65,504 (three-day) weekend and far below the 207,334 result of Thor.

Horrible Bosses can be found this week at #4 with the great for the genre 213,676 result, while newcomer Shark Night 3D arrives at #5. The horror movie boasts the excellent for its genre and number of screenings 31,023, which already makes it a success in my boxoffice hitlist. Another surprisingly strong result is delivered at #6, where Colombiana wins over the few screenings it has and the fact that it comes in no 3D to debut with a result of 27,231.

At #7, despite a weak start last weekend, The Change-Up finds its feet and already has 68,669, at #8 Cowboys and Aliens stands with a total of 197,649. The top ten is rounded by Rise of The Planet of The Apes with a total of 243,984 at #9 and Harry Potter at #10 with 787,519.

Three movies leave the top ten this weekend. Fright Night confirmed (more or less) its flop status with a total of 60,583, Captain America's total of 331,346 is good at least, while Friends with Benefits' 276,902 has a little ahead of it to surpass the almost 300,000 result of No Strings Attached.

Compared to my projections (which did not take into account the long weekend), Green Lantern came below my 55,000 forecast, while Shark Night and Colombiana surpassed my expectations of 7,000 and 15,000, respectively.

Next weekend's projections:

Zookeeper - 40,000, including previews
The Nutcracker in 3D - 12,000

(the used currency is Bulgarian lev, 1 lev is equal to 0.51 euros and 0.74 dollars)

Only the latest music videos - 5.09

Not many A-list artists this week, but still you can find some amazing new tracks. Enjoy!

German chart comments - Issue date - 02.09.2011

Looking at the changes on the top of the German singles chart, one thing is sure - the autumn is really coming. So, Lucenzo and Don Omar have to give up the #1, where their "Danza Kuduro" stood for just a week, to lead the way to Marlon Roudette to debut directly at the summit. Marlon who? many would say, but the closer look shows that the man is no stranger to the number one position in Germany as part of UK duo Mattafix he stood there in 2004 with the Europe-wide (UK excluded) smash "Big City Life". "New Age" marks the first solo success of Marlon and the song use in the soundtrack of "What A Man" - a German blockbuster and in some commercials of Pro7 meant that is was destined to be a huge smash. In addition, it's a radio friendly song, which Germans always like. The fact that it is also a good tune also helped.

Thus "Danza Kuduro" steps down to #2, surrounded by new entries as at #3 US band Maroon 5 makes their comeback with aplomb. "Moves Like Jagger" is not only the first top ten single of the group since "This Love" reached #5 in 2004, but is also Maroon 5's biggest successful song in Germany ever. The Jagger hymn also marks the return of Christina Aguilera in the top 3 for the first time since "Hurt" peaked at #2 in 2006.

In quite busy with new entries week, another one can be found at #9. Big things for Spanish DJ Sak Noel were forecast as early as the summer was reaching as peak, so expectedly dance anthem "Loca People (What The F**k!)" shoots directly in the top ten. The song is already a major hit in Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands and eastern Europe, and like it or hate it, it's definitely one of the hits of summer 2011.

Over the past weeks I wrote that David Guetta should release all his songs as chart-eligible singles and as it seems his record company has paid attention. This week we have two new entries belonging to him - at #12 his collaboration with Jennifer Hudson "Night Of Your Life" becomes his 13th top 20 song in Germany, while at #84 enters his team-up with Afrojack "Lunar". It would be interesting to see whether other big acts would be able to follow the same release strategy with a success...Oh, and at #7 David's "Titanium" makes a new peak - perhaps it would gain a video soon?

At #20 UK singer Natalia Kills returns to the top 20 with "Free" for the first time after her smash "Mirrors" reached #10, while follow-up "Wonderland" stumbled at #45.

A much better song is on the rise in the mid-twenties, where "Jona Vark" of Gypsy and The Cat is advancing by three slots to peak #22. Hopefully the VIVA anthem will reach the top 20 next.

At #28 "Next To You", Chris Brown's team-up with Justin Bieber turns into the fifth top 30 single for both the rapper and the teen star.

After the somewhat surprising success of Caro Emerald's "A Night Like This" (peak #4), the Dutch singer's follow-up "Stuck" debuts this week at the respectful #41.

Three positions behind, Lenny Kravitz, who this week can congratulate himself with the #1 album, brings his latest single "Stand" in the top 50, up from #69 a week earlier.

And the remaining new entries with videos:

#46 -  Doreen - Wie konntest du nur - the ex-Nu Pagadi (remember them?) singer brings another solo single in the countdown. The top 25 however is still out of reach.
#61 - Nicole Scherzinger feat. 50 Cent - Right There - seeing the poor placing of this UK top 3 smash, the decision to not release previous Nicole's singles in Germany was probably a good one. Pussycat Dolls were never that much successful in Germany either...
#72 - Thees Uhlmann - Zum Laichen und sterben ziehen die Lachse den Fluss hinauf - The first single of the German singer to enter the charts. Pls, next time give it a try with a shorter title...
#80 - Haudegen - Zu Hause - Another first top 100 single for a German act.
Video
#98 - Kim Wilde - It's Alright / Sleeping Satellite - Despite Kim's popularity in Germany, her decision to cover two classics was obviously not welcomed well.

The Album Chart

"Black And White America", the 9th studio album of Lenny Kravits becomes the star's first ever number one in Germany, while Adele's "21" falls to #2 and heavy metal band J.B.O.'s "Killeralbum" debuts at #3. In the top ten we have a new entry also at #5 by Daniel Wirtz, the singer of German group Sub7even, and his solo project "Akustik Voodoo".
