German chart comments - Issue date - 28.01.2011

Still there is nothing going on at the top of the German singles chart, with Black Eyed Peas' "Time" standing there for a fourth week in a row. It's up to Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" to make some action in the top ten as it jumps six positions to peak at #3.
Video

The highest new entry of the week comes in at #8. "Grenade" is of course the follow-up to Bruno (I'm so hot right now) Mars' number-two smash "Just The Way You Are". The song has already been atop the UK and US charts and is definitely a contender for the top spot in Germany in the weeks to come.
Video

Two worthy feats happen at #11, where Milk & Sugar's rendition of Vaya Con Dios' classic Hey (Nah Neh Nah) jumps from #32. First, the song becomes easily the DJ duo's biggest hit so far, beating the #33 peak of "Love Is In The Air", and second, it manages to beat the #16 peak the original reached in 1990.
Video

The second new entry of the week belongs to German band Beatsteaks at #35. "Milk and Honey" is the pilot single of the guys' latest album "Boombox" and also has the honour to be their second best performing song after "Jane Became Insane" (peak #23) from 2007.
Video

Next up, at #37 is the latest from French DJ Bob Sinclar. "Tik Tok", a collaboration with Sean Penn, of course samples the number-two hit "No Limit" by 2 Unlimited from 1992. Sinclar's most successful single in Germany is the soccer anthem "Love Generation" which was the hit of 2005 in the country.
Video

And the rest of the new entries are:

#44 Willow - Whip My Hair - Not a great entry for Will Smith's daughter and certainly a far cry from the #2 success in UK.
Video

#53 Culcha Candela - Berlin City Girl - Definitely to rise in the next weeks.
Video

#54 Kings of Leon - Pyro - Definitely to fall in the next weeks.
Video

#88 Prinz Pi - Du Bist
Video

#89 Christina Aguilera - Show Me How You Burlesque

Булевард Лондон / London Boulevard (UK) - The latest London-set gangster movie offers nothing new for the genre fans, but at least it guarantees that there won't be any bored viewers. Colin Farrell makes a good role, though Keira's character is shockingly underwritten and could be played by any pretty face out there. The best of the gang however is David Thewlis, aka Lupin from the Harry Potter series, who nails the role as Keira's assistant. He is worth the ticket price alone... Forum Film

Истинската история за котарака в чизми / La véritable histoire du Chat Botté (France) - The first of the two animated titles hitting the BG cinemas this week is let's say it - a complete mess. At places it is too scary to charm the little ones, and as a whole is so naive, with one of the ugliest animations this decade, that it won't attract any adults too. And it also doesn't come in 3D. Least to say about how the authors handled the classic story, the better. ProFilms

German chart comments - Issue date - 21.01.2011

It's all silent in the German top five this week, with Black Eyed Peas, IZ, Empire of the Sun, Katy Perry and Duck Sauce all retaining their positions. The only fresh movement in the top ten comes from Adele, whose "Rolling In The Deep" rises four notches to make a new peak at #9.
It's also good to see OneRepublic's amazing "Good Life" entering the top 20 for the first time by rising ten places to #19.
The honour for the highest new entry goes to Kesha's "We R Who We R", which enters at #23. Despite being a huge hit in USA, and actually so far unavailable as an album track, the song marks the lowest peak of any of Kesha's songs released in Germany. "Tik Tok" made #1, while "Your Love Is My Drug" and "Blah Blah Blah" both entered the top 20.
Not great news also for Mike Posner. "Please Don't Go", his follow-up to the still hot "Cooler Than Me", stumbles outside the top 30 at #40, while his debut single reached #22, but stayed among the first 30 for several months.
Further down the chart, "Invincible", Tinie Tempah's collaboration with Kelly Rowland succeeds to become his most successful single in Germany by entering at #46. It is however still a far cry from the success of Taio Cruz for example.
And as long as the other new entries are concerned, all of them indicate that this year's carnivals are coming but most of all that the winter resort parties are at their peak. See for yourself:
#48 Markus Becker - Wir Wollen Feiern!
#77 Mickie Krause feat. Ko&Ko - Schatzi, Schenk Mir Ein Foto!
#79 Tim Toupet - Ein Diamant
#98 Andrea Berg - Du Kannst Noch Nicht Mal Richtig Lügen

German chart comments - Issue date - 14.01.2011

As Black Eyed Peas score a second week at the top with "The Time (Dirty Bit)", the only movements worth mentioning in the top 10 is the #7-#4 jump of Katy Perry's "Firework", which makes a new peak, and the #13-#9 rise of David Guetta and Rihanna's "Who's That Chick". The latter surprisingly still has no official video to support it.

The highest new entry this week belongs to UK singer Adele. "Rolling In The Deep" marks the release of Adele's second album "21" and by coming in at #13 is her first song to chart in the top 20 in Germany and actually to be a hit. Adele had only one other single charting in Germany, which is "Chasing Pavements" reaching #46 in 2008.

Not much going on further down the countdown, apart from Gossip's "Heavy Cross" returning for yet another week in the top 50! At #69 we have a re-entry of "Baker Street", the classic of Gerry Rafferty, who passed away at the start of the year. The song reached #3 when first released in 1978.

The second and last new entry belongs to Austrian band Holstuonarmusigbigbandclub at #71. The band's music shows their influence from the Austrian province of Vorarlberg and the single's strange German is a good example of this.

Зеленият стършел / Green Hornet - This was the first movie I watched this year, and what a pleasant surprise it turned to be. I've read that Hollywood tends to release the titles it has a little faith in in January and expected the Hornet to be a pile of bullsh*t. Oh, how wrong I was! The film is extremely fresh and original! It bears the comedic genius of Seth Rogen, who is also its screenwriter, and the visionary touches of French director Michel Gondry. The jewel in the cast however is Jay Choe, in the role of Hornet's sidekick Kato, who steals most of the scenes he is in, despite barely speaking English. Christoph Waltz is also great as the selfish villain, while Cameron Diaz is not the best thing in the movie, but is at least bearable. In other words, Green Hornet offers great entertainment, but if you are one of the few who are not fans of Rogen or expect something too typical for a Gondry movie, better chose something else. Сезонът на вещиците / The Season Of The Witch was the perfect proof of the saying that the least expectations for a movie make a film at least watchable. So if you don't care about historical accuracy (it is a fantasy after all), can pass all the Lord Of The Rings references (plus the music), don't mind the overacting of one of the most overrated actors ever, Season Of The Witch will offer several surprises on the way. And, as a bonus, Ron Perlman, aka Hellboy, has another great role in its CV. (Tandem)

German chart comments - Issue date - 7.01.2011

There is no single new entry in the German top 100 this week and things are not going to become much better in the weeks to come. This, however, does not mean that we haven't got a big news at the top, where Germans finally placed a NEW number one in 13 weeks. And by new I mean, a song actually released in 2010 and not years earlier. The honour goes to Black Eyed Peas' global smash "The Time (Dirty Bit)", which becomes the fourth number one of the group in Germany, next to "Where Is the Love?"; "Shut Up" and "Meet Me Halfway".

Despite that IZ gives up the throne, his version of "Over The Rainbow" has managed in the last few days of 2010 to overcome Shakira's "Waka Waka" and Lena's "Satellite" and become the biggest selling single in Germany for the last year. A feat supported by the fact that Media Control (the company which calculates the chart) finally decided to make year-end charts based on the entire calendar year. In previous years, the charts were released in early December, with the Christmas sales included in the next year's countdowns.

Туристът / The Tourist - If it hasn't been released in 2011, The Tourist would have been the best candidate for the worst movie of 2010. Not that there weren't others "worthy" for that honour titles, but having in mind the film unites an European director with an excellent debut, not only two of the biggest world movie stars but the biggest ones - Jolie and Depp, a good premise and a beautiful city, the fact that it is such a disappointment could not be more bitter. So what is actually wrong? First of all it's the stupid story, which can be swallowed if it wasn't for the lack of any chemistry between the two giants in the main roles. Yes, Jolie is marvellous to behold as she moves smoothly across Venice and Europe, but one could not help but wonder what is the problem with Depp and his character. On the plus side, the movie is beautifully shot and Jolie is marvellous to behold. Oh, wait a minute, I've already said that, but yes, this could be the only excuse to watch The Tourist. But you haven't seen the director's debut feature The Lives Of Others, one of the best European and especially German movies in the last years, this is the perfect moment to do so...(Alexandra)

Пътешествията на Гъливер / Gulliver's Travels 2010  - When a trailer reads - "it comes from the people behind Night at the Museum", or something like that, this really means that any serious movie lover should stay away from the cinema hall. And if you add Jack Black as the core star, who has more misses than hits in his career, and the 6 euro admission price, it is certain that "Gulliver's Travel" is the latest Hollywood title which should be avoided. Moreover, the fact that the film is a failure in USA may actually result in more serious treatments to classic stories like that of Jonathan Swift. Though, I doubt it. Not a good end of the 2010 movie year...
