German chart comments - Issue date - 29.10.2010

Another week in Germany with Iz's "Somewhere over the Rainbow" still number one, for now a fourth time in the singles top 100. He is once again followed by Rihanna's dance smash "Only Girl", while Hurts' wonderful "Wonderful Life" returns to the top three in its eleventh week on the countdown.
Video Iz
Video Rihanna
Video Hurts

No single song enters or exits the top ten with the biggest new entry coming in at #22. Bon Jovi is a band which does not need introduction. Their first hit in Germany was "Livin’ on a Prayer" in 1986 and their last "Superman Tonight" from earlier this year. It's a career many bands would have been envy of, apart from the fact that Bon Jovi has never reached number one in Germany, with only "It's My Life" coming closer by peaking at #2. Their latest single "What Do You Got?" marks the release of the band's "Greatest Hits" and although it manages to enter the top 30, it has nothing new to offer in terms of music quality...
Video

The next new entry comes from German singer Valentine at #30. "Black Sheep" is a great pop item which succeeds to become the biggest charting single of Valentine, who had some top 100 single in the last five years, which I personally don't remember. The most successful of them was "Feel So Bad", which reached #33 in 2005.
Video

Further down the chart it has to be mentioned that Alicia Keys' "Empire State Of Mind" (Part II) finally breaks in to the top 40 by jumping from #72 to #35 in its...21 week in the countdown.
Video

The third highest new entry belongs to the group which currently has the best selling album in Germany, in other words Kings of Leon. "Radioactive" is the pilot single of the guys' fifth album and enters this week at the rather low #41. Although some may blame the group to have become too commercial, I still think this is one of the best tracks of the autumn. Kings' biggest hit in Germany is "Use Somebody" which peaked at #9.

Interesting moves and the other new entries further down the chart:

#44 (up from #56 in its 54 week!!!) - Gossip - Heavy Cross

#46 (up from #66) - Eliza Doolittle - Skinny Genes

#49 (New) - Jamiroquai - White Knuckle Ride

#80 (New) - Till Brönner - Summer Breeze

#86 (New) - Tone Damli - Butterflies

German chart comments - Issue date - 22.10.2010

As Iz stands for a third consecutive week at #1 with "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", the German top 20 sees four new entries coming from Rihanna, Usher, Culcha Candela and Sarah Connor.
Video

First of them is Rihanna who returns to the charts only a year after its latest album Rated R, which though including some top hits such as "Russian Roulette" and "Rude Boy", was considered a misfire. Now the singer comes back with a new, more dance orientated material, and by entering at #2 with "Only Girl" shows that it was worth it. Furthermore, the song was even released several weeks ahead of its video, which didn't stop it to storm the top three.
Video

Despite that Usher's previous single "OMG" was a major hit globally, it reached only #27 in Germany, which is why the entry of his latest hit "Dj Got Us Fallin' In Love" at #6 is more than a welcome surprise, proving he is still liked in the country.
Video

The first single of German band Culcha Candela entered the charts in 2004, peaking at #65. Now after six years and one number one (Hamma!) and two top ten singles (Ey DJ; Monsta) the guys are ready with their first Best Of album. "Move It" is a new track taken from the compilation and by coming in at #7 shows that Culcha Candela are more than famous currently.
Video

German diva Sarah Connor also returns to the single charts this autumn by entering at #16 with the catchy "Cold As Ice". It is the pilot single from her latest album "Real Love" and for now is that rare animal - a Sarah Connor single outside the top ten. Sarah has five number one singles and 12 top ten singles in her career spanning in the last nine years.

Premiums are seen up by a low one-digit percentage. Vienna Insurance projects that its 2010 pretax profit will grow by 10% on the year, while its premium income will be up by between 6% and 8%.

German chart comments - Issue date - 8.10.2010

As I predicted in the last two weeks, the prospects for Israel Kamakawiwo'ole to take the crown in the German singles chart were more than rosy. And thus, three weeks after entering the chart, the late Hawaiian singer succeeds in removing Eminem and Rihanna from the top, putting his take on the "Over The Rainbow" classic at the summit.

Video - Iz

So Eminem and Rihanna move down to #2 after two weeks at the top, with Taio Cruz's "Dynamite" finally making the top three after several weeks in the top five. This is the first single of the UK star to go as much higher in Germany after his debut "Break Your Heart" peaked at #5.
Video

Among the biggest news this week is the re-entry of Leona Lewis' "Run" at #9. By doing so, the great cover of the Snow Patrol song, manages to easily achieves its highest position in Germany some two years after initially released. Despite being extremely popular worldwide, "Run" stalled in the lower end of the German top 20 towards the close of 2008. The attention this time around comes after the song was performed by the 14-year old Andrea Renzullo at the country's Das Supertalent show. We may blame the formats of such shows, but when they have the power to undo such chart injustice as the Leona Lewis case, we have to actually thank them.
Andrea's Version
Leona's Version

The highest new entry comes in at #13, belonging to German band Unheilig. "Unter deiner Flagge" is the third single from Unheilig's latest album, which recently became the most successful German-language LP by standing 17 weeks at the top of the albums chart. With the never-ending presence of pilot single "Geboren um zu Leben" in the top 20, the latest single at least has the honour to chart higher than previous one "Für immer", which reached #17. "Unter deiner Flagge" also won the Bundesvision Song Contest 2010 on October 1, so its chances to go higher in the next week are not to be underestimated.
Video - Live

The next highest new entry can be found at #22, coming from French rapper Sexion d'Assaut. It is always a pleasure to see a non-English/German song in the upper reaches of the German singles and "Désolé" deserves to be in the top 30.
Video

Next at #36 we have Romanian megastar Inna, whose "Amazing" has already been a huge smash in eastern Europe one summer ago. Still, not close to the success of fellow Romanian star Edward Maya, whose "Stereo Love" reached #4 in Germany, the new single of Inna at least manages to improve from the poor performance of "Hot", her debut in the country, which peaked at #80.

And here are the videos of the remaining new entries in the chart:

#51 Ben L'Oncle Soul - Seven Nation Army
Video

#52 Selena Gomez & The Scene - Round & Round

#60 Amy Macdonald - This Pretty Face

#73  Nick Jonas - Introducing Me

#83 Tinie Tempah - Written on the Stars

In BG Cinemas from Oct 8

Писател в сянка (2010) / The Ghost Writer - After Warners/Alexandra decided that Bulgaria is not worthy of the Zac Snyder's animation Legend of The Guardians, The Ghost Writer is the only premier in BG cinemas this week. Most of the people who've watched the movie say it's a return to form of Roman Polanski, who was even under house arrest when editing the title. I still have to watch it, but nevertheless I think I'll do no harm if I recommend The Ghost Writer. A bonus point for putting Samantha in there... Forum Film

German chart comments - Issue date - 01.10.2010

No changes at the top spot of this week's German singles chart with Eminem & Rihanna's global smash standing there for a second week in a row. The big news in the top ten is once again Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo'ole, whose "Over The Rainbow" rises three places to reach #3 in its third week in the countdown. If the song keeps its upward pattern, the late singer will most probably have a number one in Germany next week.
Video

The biggest new hit of the week comes in at #16. "Airplanes" of B.O.B. has already stormed the global charts and in Germany has the honour to be more successful than the R'n'B star's debut single - "Nothin' On You", which surprisingly failed to reach the top 20 despite being atop of the charts worldwide. Guest vocals on B.O.B.'s second single are provided by Hayley Williams, whose own group Paramore has never entered the German top 40.

The failure of "Get Outta My Way", Kylie Minogue's latest single, to reach the top 10 in UK may be big news across the La Manche, but the flop of the song in Germany at #45 is no surprising at all having in mind the Aussie was never such enormous star in the country (as compared to UK) and most importantly the song is irritatingly unremarkable with even the video copying former glories (yes, "Slow" I'm looking at you). Thus, the more catchy previous single of Kylie "All The Lovers" is still in the chart at #33.

Not much going on further down the Top 100 with only the #95-#60 jump of the second (chart-entering) single of German band Silly worth mentioning.
